They act tough because the job is easy. It's so fucking easy a guy who doesn't speak English and has never held a knife before can walk into a kitchen anywhere in the US and get a job the same day. They talk about their "hours" without including the time they spend cleaning, like that's some great challenge. The amount of time cooks spend actually cooking is tiny and if you ask me they get paid too much. Fuck, I have more respect for the waiters who are forced to server the slop produced by these morons. Fuck Bourdain and all those pansy scumbags who talked up being a line cook as though it was the same as being a soldier. I think fundamentally, they know they're doing women's work, and that makes them insecure in their masculinity so they over compensate by pretending to be badasses.
