Had this the other night. Very rich and sweet with lots of molasses and roasted coffee. I was expecting a bitter bite from the hops, but there was none. Not much alcohol taste either considering its 9%.

Then that person is an idiot. There are basically two types of beer. Ale which is the older style that ferments at a warmer temp, and lagers which is a "new" style that ferments at a colder temp. They might have been referring to the fact that industrial teir lagers and light lagers aren't flavorful, but that doesn't mean a lager style beer isn't real beer.
