Charred bread doesn't taste good because the flour ingredient in the crust takes on an acrid taste.

Coffee beans takes on unique flavor while roasting though.. it's very different and only retards need this explained to them.

other blackened foods that you might like would be charred steaks and smoked bbq.. for instance brisket.

These items take on a blackened/burned appearance but are considered delicious by many because of the complex organic compounds that are created by high temperatures in the case of charred steak and smoke in the case of brisket.

If you were going to open a restaurant that was themed around dark colored food items, I would stay away from bread unless you are serving something like classic german pumpernickel.
