No, in reality everyone here overdoes the fuck out of their roast so it's grey and like eating leather. Good news though, it's all gonna get covered in gravy so you get a big plate of same-tasting mush.

There's that thing about British people having awful food. I don't think that's fully true, we have some good stuff, but the fact that a roast is nearly universally loved here despite being utter shit certainly lends credit to that reputation.

I'm making a traditional English Sunday roast meal. Roast Beefmeat, oven potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, with dressing and gravy. Vegetables will be brussel sprouts, carrots, and broccoli. With a Victoria sponge cake for dessert.

It may not be fancy stuff but it's filling in a down-home kind of way. I'm an American who lived in England for a couple years. I miss a proper Sunday Roast, even a nice sausage roll. To say nothing of a true Cornish Pasty. Just beautiful. That's not even getting into the local chippies, Indian, Kebab joints, etc. Good beer, good hearty food with a variety of fresh local produce, meats, cheeses, etc. It's really a great country. Admittedly for the most part they're absolutely dogshit at preparing the quality ingredients they have. I did not have a single good steak my entire time, and god knows I tried all the "Best" I could find around. Yet they could do decent lamb and I really loved the sausages, it's amazing how they can do some shit good and others not at all.

British Pubs are also really fucking cozy and I miss that atmosphere.

Ours is really shitty, luckily we're good at whiskey. We tend to boil everything into oblivion.

I really wish it was easier to find authentic British cuisine in the US. Even in large cities you just don't find 'English restaurants' like you do traditional Italian, Spanish, or French. You get the odd 'Irish pub' that serves some staples in half-assed bar-food fashion, which I suppose carries its own sort of authenticity, but there's basically nothing (that I've found) attempting to replicate the sort of home cooking I had when I lived there.
Maybe it's different in the north-east?

>Med-rare Roast Beef
>Vegetables roasted in duck/goose fat (potatoes, parsnips, carrots)
>Homemade yorkshire puddings
>Buttery mashed potato
>Brussels Sprouts
>Other veg of your choosing (broccoli, cauliflower, peas, etc)

British food is, on the whole, pretty shit.

But the British sunday roast is simple, and absolutely delicious.
