the korean shit is just the manifestation of a traditional society (where order is kept through presrcibed and rigid forms of social interaction) trying to survive modernity (where individuals are needed just as part of the big machine and so those forms of social interaction are no longer necessary to survive). thus, those restaurants are ways to help the workers keep their mental stability so they can keep working, by giving them a sort of modern replacement for the collectivist mentality they inherited. such things night seem an extravagance to us, but theyre vital for them.
