I got a non-lodge brand cast iron skillet a couple months ago. Total cast iron noob too. I did a light coat of avocado oil and put it in the oven at 450 for like an hour or so, none of that orbital sander fuck shit, it's a god damn pan. I've cooked eggs, steak, pork chop, chicken, bacon, and sauteed vegetables in it. Of course I use butter or a little oil each time. When you're done, I either give it a quick wipe with a paper towel and leave it on the stove top or I wash it out quick with some dish soap and water, dry it out on the stove top burner and give it another quick wipe with some avocado oil, or I just leave it on the stove top as is like a used dirty whore. Seems to work fine so far.
