this might be a silly point, but in restaurants, I'd rather drink 'black' or unsweetened coffee because sometimes there isn't any cream or sugar around, and I don't want to wait for a sever to deliver it.

Coffee in the USA is a bit of a swill anyways, unless you are a hipster starbucks faggot. So at a diner, it's just better to ingest the dark black drink and get on with your day. I guess in that sense, it's a tradition.

...Ironically, you could order 'black' coffee because it's "good for the environment..." wouldn't want to waste any small plastic packages or sugar paper packages, despite burning the equator's land for plantations of coffee beans.
