Whats exactly is so bad about pouring vegetable oil down the drain? It's an unsaturated fat, it's not like it's going to coagulate in the pipes.

I started a Used Cooking Oil Bank in our city where residents can drop off their unneeded oil, for the benefit of the poor and unfortunate, who can then take the oil back to their apartments and pour it right down the kitchen sink.

I know we're not supposed to pour grease down the drain-- I get it. I have a question though.
Can I add dawn dish soap and hot water to it & pour it, or is that still gonna fuck up the pipes???
The dish soap cuts through it to clean it off of dishes. Why wouldn't it neutralize the grease itself?

What is the best way to go about disposing marinade and rancid oil? I'm told that it's okay to dump it into a trash can, but I'm not comfortable with dumping nearly a gallon of liquid (I was deep frying) into a thin trash bag. Is there a better to go about doing it?
