When I first got into cooking I was so excited about my new found hobby that I tried to bake a chocolate sponge cake for my family.
Unfortunetely, it got burnt. I panicked during the cooking process and kept stabbing holes into it with a thermometer and that made it worse.
I gave it to my family and what did they say?
My dad said 'Errr son. I think a Nigger has been washing with your sponge'.
My mom said 'Its a good thing we don't have a starfish in the tank because a sponge with that many holes would befriend it'
My brother just got up and left the table.

I was discouraged for WEEKS and didn't so much as pick up a packet of flour in that time. All because of horrible, harsh words.
