The fact that it tastes different. Am*rican producers bank on the fact that the average wine consumer here buys wine as a one-off purchase to act like "rich people" during a special occasion meal, so most Am*ricans won't notice or care. Moreover, if you point out the fact that there are readily obvious taste differences they will get angry and defensive and start screeching about "innovation" which is Am*rican for stockholm syndrome.
