You shouldn't be drowning it in sauce. You put sauce on it. That might make one small area of breading slightly soggy, but not the bulk of it at all.
Your picture isn't even the common way to serve katsu kare.
See how in my coco ichi piripiri chicken curry the crispy stuff is on the rice? Guess why they do that.

Japanese curry is based on British naval curry. If you're mad about what Japanese curry is today, some of the blame belongs to the UK.
Also, c'mon man, it isn't bad. It's different than curries from other countries and far less interesting, but it's a fabulous meal to warm up on a cold night.

It isn't a competition. Japanese curry is delicious and comfy, especially on a cold night. It's a different experience from Indian curry. It's heavier than most Indian curries, warms you to your bones.

Absolutely false, but it's still very good.
Its especially comfy on a cold winter's night. You've been waking in the city most of the day, stopping at various shops to see what they've got and taking a break at the library.
Its right near a Coco Ichi, so what the hell. Warms you right up, and even though it's right near the train station you figure you have the energy now to walk to your apartment instead.
Good times.

Cocoichi curry with chicken, spinach, and some extra fried chicken on top. I usually got level 3. It's strange, but 4 was just too much.

C'mon man, that looks bad to you?

He's at Coco Ichibanya, and while 90% of the time spicy Japanese food isn't spicy at all the other 10% it's a serious curry or ramen. I have no idea how their spice levels work because I can eat a level 100 in an Indian curry shop but even level 4 is pretty hot for me at Coco.

They absolutely do not. Indian and Srilankan curries are much more varied and interesting than Japanese curry.
