I wouldn't call it secret but a guy I used to work with who used to win multiple chili competitions turned me onto adding El Pato to chili, usually the Yellow but the Green is also good. The only problem is they're a hassle to find.

Pic related is pretty good, El Pato yellow and green. I found some at a Walmart a few weeks ago, I should have bought more since I don't live near the place.

I made with chili using them a few days ago and it came out really well. Go for the yellow and/or green, the red can one is weird.

Here's another good one to add to chile instead of regular tomato sauce, El Pato, yellow or green. A guy I worked with used to use that and he was winning official regional chili cookoffs, he ground all kinds of chiles too to make his own powder. He used to give me some of it sometimes... good times!
