Contrary to popular belief, the US has a ton of regional cuisine. Furthermore, a ton of European and Asian ingredients currently used are native to America. While it's true we probably have less unique dishes as a country, keep in mind there are a variety of reasons. Most people are okay eating the already existing food of their ancestors. And prior to a few hundred years ago, America was inhabited by stone aged savages who mostly ate for sustenance. We've had less time than you.

Unfortunately Europeans lie about being open-minded and knowledgeable. That's why you're going to see a lot of people here whining about there not being American food rather than talking about shrimp and grits, pork and beans, red beans and rice, collard greens, pralines, salted watermelon, cornbread, BBQ, lemonade with sherbert, etc.

Grits, cornbread, smoked meats, tea. It really depends on the region. Yes, the south is a region, but there are regions of the south. The US is fucking huge. Just a small chunk of a state may have a strong pork culture.
