I was tasting wine at some winery in Napa and my spaz wine aunt kept cajoling me for tasting notes, I proceeded to just say "Yes" or "No" to each one to shut her up. A guy who turned out to be the vintner himself rounded the corner right as I put down some cabernet that was overly ambitious and clearly hadn't worked out, but I laughed as I did so. The vintner pretended to be some kind of senior server and brought me a different cab and I recognized right away that it was a version of the wine I had laughed at, I liked this one and said so. At this point he revealed he was the vintner and completely agreed that the earlier attempts at that particular cab were failures in his opinion and not worth having out for tasting and had been overruled by someone else. I could tell he was pretty happy he was going to be able to tell off the person who overruled him with "someone actually laughed at it". I walked away with an unreleased bottle of the new cab with a handwritten label.

Also one time I ordered a meat pizza at a fancy place where people don't usually get non-italian pizzas, though it's on the menu. The cook walked out, looked me over and said "just needed to see what you're drinking", which was a black ale. When it arrived, it was a unique version of a meat pizza that was not on the menu which was fucking fantastic, though it wasn't free or anything.
