Well then if it's not to your taste, that means you just don't like a sweet dark beer and that doesn't make it a gimmick, just because you don't like it now does it?

It is now the norm for brewers to brew batches of their aignature dark beer with a sweet ingredient that compliments the style of the taste of the original brew. It's hardly a gimmick. If you're referring to the style of labelling and marketing with wacky graphics and names, many breweries do this with IPAs and other beers , even big breweries such as brew dog do this, it's hardly a gimmick and more of a trend of how the market for craft beer has gone over the years.

Just because you personally dislike something, or havent noticed the trend because you only buy macro brewed below average beer at the local supermarket, doesn't mean you have to relegate it to being a 'gimmick or a 'meme' to make yourself feel better about either your own taste, or your own ignorance.

You've obviously never tried it, and don't understand what a dark porter/stout is. Sweet ingredients pair well with the creamy texture and bitter body of the beer. People like you who act like they are chucking in sweet artificial flavorings into a lager, because you don't understand the difference between a porter or stout from any other beer.
