listen opie, anyone who says you need to make a bechamel separately is stupid. you need to make it in the pot for maximum success, here's why:
when you drain your pasta, the starches in the residual water help to thicken the "sauce".

>boil pasta al dente
>lightly drain water (in colander, if you have one)
>put pasta in pot
>throw in equal parts butter and cream/half-and half (whole milk, at the least)
>warm the mixture while stirring
>toss in shredded white cheddar
>salt, pepper, and season to taste

while the pasta's in the colander, you can even brown some garlic in the pan, if'n you want.

and i'm trying to get to the root of what is retarded about calling something other than human a "someone". you started this semantic shitshow because you dismissed it out of hand. since this is an issue of definition, i'm using philosophy to get at the root of it.

an old dead white guy once claimed that there were two types of relationships in the world: "subject-object" (i-it) and "subject-subject" (i-thou). the difference is that the object relationship doesn't account for the needs, desires and fears of the recipient (the object, in this case, could be a fellow human/"someone").

the i+thou relationship takes into account the perspective of the "other" (which could be a human, animal, plant, etc) and so recognizes the sanctity of independence for both entities. basically, do unto others (including animals!) as you would have them do unto you.

i have no problem with the humane farming and slaughter of animals (which accounts for a negligible portion in the USA), but surely you can't deny the cattle's ability to experience fear, pain, unhappiness and even anger in this cruel environment.
