there's only doubt in that the scientific community is trying to be responsible. Until it's possible to quite literally be omniscient on what an organism is "thinking", we will never know for 100% certain. But from the data we have now, it's extraordinarily apparent to me that they aren't sentient, and that their lives are spent mechanically reacting to their environment, like a plant.

Why this is so difficult to sell to most vegans is strange to me, especially since it could be used to advocate for more efficient usage of our current fishing fleets and coastlines. but veganism is also a set of moral principles paved by good intentions, not a logic proof. So I won't judge, so long as they don't judge me for mine either.

I'm 99% sure I had post infectious ibs from eating chipotle. NEVER eat there.
