>Five Guys
>hideously overpriced.
nailed it

I could probably afford to eat at Fogo de Chao or Ruth's Chris every day for the rest of my life, but I would give it all up to be able to eat at picrelated again.

I'm back. The tzatziki sauce brand name is "Hannah" and is item number 595006. The gyros meat brand name is indeed "Daphne's" and is item number 1363747. Those plus some chopped onion and seeded diced tomato are breddy gud, not Wally's quality but then again Wally's closed permanently forever. ;_;

I miss it so much bros. It was the best gyros place in the universe. Plus, their sign was a total trademark trolling of McD's.

It's called Wally's and it's pronounced "permanently closed and gone forever". ;_;

I used to eat at Wally's every week while in high school. Friday night was Wally's night. Gyros, extra sauce, big soda. To go, because it was impossible to get a seat there.

Amazing french fries, best I've ever had. I didn't generally get them, because they just don't go with gyros, but they did an amazing job with them.

It was a successful restaurant -- no, "success" understates it, it was never not packed, except maybe for half an hour after opening in the morning. Go at 3pm and you might not have to wait long for a table, but generally speaking you'd have to wait.

I almost took a friend there when he visited a few months ago, but it's an hour and a half drive from where my mother moved to (which is where I'm stuck now), and that's if you take the tollway and pay something like $10 in tolls to go there and back.

I've been picking up precooked gyros meat and buckets of sauce at Costco to get my gyros fix since moving back to help my mother out, and it's nowhere nearly as good. I've thought about going up to Wally's many times, but the cost (in time, tolls, and gas) was just too high.

So I just looked to find picrelated for funsies to post somewhere, and Google's top result was that Wally's shut down two years ago. Hard to say if the scamdemic did them in, I can't see how since they did probably 80% of their business as takeout anyway, but they're gone. The article sounded more like the owner just got tired of running it.

Fifty years of history vaporized in an instant. No one will ever know the joy of a Wally's gyros again.

>Skokie
Really? OP, if you end up going all the way to Skokie, go to Pita Inn. It's some of the best Palestinian food you'll ever encounter.

Or you could go up to Park Ridge and get a gyros from Wally's. They are the ultimate gyros in the Chicago area at least.
