As an actual Jew who lived in Japan for years, I may be able to shed some light on this.
Japanese food is actually many different things, and you can eat very healthy there or eat like complete shit, just like in America. I gained weight in Japan, when I was new there, because I didn't change my eating habits. I could get basically whatever I wanted, and eating onigiri for breakfast isn't significantly different from eating other meat+carbs.
Anyway, I eventually lost about 90 pounds through careful diet and consistent exercise.
Japan isn't magic and the food there isn't universally healthy, the argument you guys are having is completely idiotic.

Here's a restaurant quality display of the same oden dish here (which was homemade)

Any of these skewers is ¥100. Most of them are fishcakes, but you can also get potatoes, eggs, and even beef. It's called oden, and while it's mostly a winter food you can still find it in summer.
