It's pretty gamey but I wouldn't say it tastes like chicken at all. It's dark red meat, squirrels are tough and lean as fuck.

Fox squirrel from the suburbs is where it's at, but of course you can't be shooting .22s up in the trees around people. But I had some woods behind my house and my god the fox squirrels actually had fat globs on them, big and succulent too.

Squirrel hunting is fun as hell, it's marksmanship.
They tend to get parasites including bot flies believe it or not, so only hunt them after it gets cold. Season starts Sept 15 but if it's a warm year I'll wait until October.
