>Elderly mother has NPD and symptoms of BPD and paranoid schizophrenia so eating with her is a nightmare and always has been.
>Frequently humiliates or picks fights with staff, has actually gotten thrown out of restaurants and basically started a riot at a Texas Roadhouse once.
>Excuses the long list of her awful behavior as "I'm old" or "That's just who I am!"
>Even when she's in a good mood it's always a set of "special" requests. First she demands special seating, then she assumes the host is our waiter and asks them for hand sanitizer or something.
>Then asks for the air conditioner to be turned off or the fan to be turned off, a light lowered, music lowered or raised, and sometimes even to have a window open or closed.
>Asks what the specials are and basically to have the menu read to her, then doesn't pay attention. Ex: Waitress saying what the side options are gets response of "And what sides does it come with?"
>Then it's her special tea, "3/4th's unsweetened with 1/2 (yes, she always gets this wrong) sweetened on top."
>If it's meat, she "forgets" what the different ways to cook meat are called and asks for an explanation of everything between rare and well-done. If there's sauce she wants it on the side, or extra. If it comes with nuts or cookies she demands extra. She may ask to have it cooked in a different way ala Larry David.
>Depending on how subservient the waitress has behaved (she has explained being waited on hand and foot is her favorite thing) if it was insufficient she will then complain that the silverware is dirty, the plates are dirty, we don't have enough bread, the glass is dirty, etc.
>She will then flag down the host or another waiter to complain about our waitress enjoying applying pressure to them.
>When the food arrives she always sends it back. Managers have gotten into arguments with her as she does this so frequently they believe she's trying to get free food. It's always too cold, too hot, too hard, too soft. Goldilocks incarnate.
