I have one huge girl whos been laying almost daily all winter. I am keep the females and going to start hatching next year. If I can cobble together a breeding coop I might do chickens as well. Especially if I get a Rhode island red rooster out of this years chicks.

That's what the guides say. I've never raised a batch specifically to be butchered before. Usually just after I find out 11 out of 16 a male or a rooster attacks someone.

I'm having the reverse problem. 17 hens and 3 duck hens going in full spring production.
That's a dozen ish eggs a day.

That's still early enough in the spring that I can expand my garden. I have enough seed potatoes that fertilizer and drip irrigation that I could guerilla garden potatoes here or there and in a few forest clearings near my house.
Plus all the birds.
