Look at the writing on that plate, dude. It's from the Japanese curry chain Cocoichi. That's how they serve fried items, on the rice. Unless you're getting a zanmai plate with tons of fried stuff, then some of it has to go in the curry because there's so much.
Anyway, good job making yourself look foolish.
Here's another. See how all the fried stuff is grouped in the middle? That's where the rice is. Yeah, a bit of it is resting on the curry, but the bulk of it isn't. This is is from Fujiyama Dragon Curry.
Which I've now learned is permanently closed. Fucking bummer.

No, not like the large majority of Japanese curry I've had. At Coco Ichi, Gogo Curry, Dragon Curry, buffets like Budo no Oka, all of their curries are just the sauce and you can add additional stuff. Stew doesn't work like that. You could say a curry is a kind of stew, but not all stews are curries and any Japanese consumer would not be confused about the two.
