Sensodyne does work for sensitivity. If you don't have sensitivity, then any toothpaste is fine (own brand is good, price doesn't matter). It's all about technique.

You want pic related. Hold it above the gingival line (where gum meets tooth), then on the tooth itself for 3 seconds each, on all sides of the tooth.

Electric toothbrushes are the goat, not even meming. If you brush too hard with a manual you'll end up with receding gums. With an electrical, you hold it lightly on each tooth and it does all the work for you.
