My 2 favorites are Oh She Glows!'s holiday lentil loaf. I make it for either christmas or thanksgiving every year. I guess you could argue its trying to be a meatloaf, but it has nuts and carrots and raisins and shit, so i'd say its its own thing.

my other favorite is a recipe I've posted in vegan threads a few times. Its tempeh and cashews with hoisin sauce over rice or rice noodles served on a "lettuce boat" or whatever you want to call it.

Start out on high heat, and keep it high, if you have an electric stove, I start out on 10 and never go lower than 8.

Use enough oil to lightly coat what you are cooking. you say 2 tablespoons, which would be too little if you were cooking for like 6 people.

don't use vegetables that are watery, like zucchini, which often loses water as it sautes, which makes your oil all water and ineffective.

Also, don't throw water into your oil to test it. You could hurt yourself, start a fire, or water down your oil if you have to do it a few times. When sauteing I almost always start with onions and garlic, so I normally just throw a piece of onion in and wait for the oil to start going.

If all else fails, try a higher heat oil like safflower.

Hey /ck/,

I frequent fairly often, mostly to look and tasty pictures of food. But I'm starting to gain interest in cooking when I'm from touring. Looking for some beginner recipes that work well for someone who is lactose intolerant. Also avoiding red meat. Any help is very appreciated, and feel free to post tasty looking pics for mine and others enjoyment.
