if it's a matter of grammar alone, this should be easy. "someone", "anyone", et alia all use the english pronoun "one" as a suffix. so what exactly does the pronoun "one" mean?

"driver", noun: one who drives.

it's pretty clear that the ambiguity of the pronoun can allow for other living entities, such as a dog, or even inanimate objects, like an apple or a chair.

if we take a step back and say "well yeah, 'one' does mean this, but when someone says 'someone', they usually mean a human", i'd agree. remember, however, that your thesis is that "it is retarded to call an animal 'someone'" whereas mine was "it is not retarded (unfounded)."
