some places have climates suited for certain produce (or even types of produce)
sometimes this has been known for years (merlot and cab sav grapes in Bordeaux for example) and other times is discovered (tomatoes in Italy)
There also exist microclimes which produce fantastic flavours and textures that you couldn't replicate elsewhere.
