So is Japanese curry a curry or a stew?

You guys probably get this post every day, but I'm in dire need of a good curry recipe. Help would be greatly appreciated, /ck/.

I have just discovered that Japanese curry sucks.
I thought I was just preparing it badly but I just ordered it in a nice place and it's just not very good.
It's like a shitty gravy

I'm making Japanese chicken curry. However, I find Japanese rice too refined and polished and it sends my blood sugar levels through the roof.

Can I just use wholegrain basmati instead? I think the nutty flavour would be a good balance to the curry.

Japanese Curry. It's the best thing ever.
Also Curry block on a Lamen with some white pepper.

The most meh Japanese 'curry' rice I've ever had was miles better than the best Indian curry I've tasted.

On that topic, Asians can't seem to do pastries and bread right to save their lives. They've either got the crumb of underdone pound cake or taste like they've been marinaded in sugar. They're almost always appearance over taste.
