Trust me, peaches were like 5 bucks a pound and the apricots were even more, so I only got like 2 of each fruit and came home with not a fuckin clue what I was going to make. Then I put the fucking cake in the oven and the butter and sugar starts melting all over the bottom of the oven releasing smoke out the wazoo... I thought it was gonna end up being total shit and I was very pleasantly surprised. Also the whole fuckin cake is gone which I'm a bit upset about cuz I only got one piece...

I get paid for the month tomorrow and if I make it to the next round I'm gonna go balls to the wall crazy muahaha

Not the prettiest but probably tied with my mexican picnic for favorite dish I've made in the competition.

Ok so, I had planned on doing like a chipotle-plum marinaded pork chop but they had no plums so I had to figure something else out.

So I made an upside down pound cake.

It has yellow and white fleshed peaches, apricots and prunes (plums).

The glaze is butter and brown sugar with a tiny bit of cinnamon. The cake is a traditional poundcake with the zest of a lemon and some peach infused seltzer water.

I gotta say I was fucking panicking, I've never made an upside down cake nor have I made poundcake from scratch. My kitchen was smoking like fuck. But that produced an amazing glaze on top with caramelized sides and one of the tastiest most moist cakes I've ever had. I'm not a big dessert fan but the combination of tart and sweet flavors was just great. This is going to definitely become a staple in my house. Or as mom says "You'll keep making this once your done with your contest, right?"

Unfortunately it's not a very pretty dish, but flavor is much more important to me than presentation as a home cook.

Goat cheese or brie! Good brie on a fresh baguette with some dried cranberries is heaven. Yum.

Yeah this would have been perfect with some beer, mmm. It's a fatty carby plate of awesomeness, definitely good drunk/hungover food.

And yes, was veeeery good. I don't even like meatballs but I liked these. The bread was fucking awesome too.

Kinda, heh.

Once again I was majorly broke this week so I used exclusively things in my home except the tomatoes and bread. Overall cost for the things I had to buy was like 4.50 so... keep that in mind lol

It's deer sausage and ground beef meatballs on whole wheat bolillo buns with shredded sharp provolone and a makeshift tomato sauce with thyme, oregano, basil, sherry, and some worcestershire..

I found some 80/20 ground beef in the freezer, as well as the deer sausage. I think they worked great together, though they aren't very photogenic.. :)
