My goddamn house is full of these. My mom's boyfriend has a bunch of fruit trees and keeps bringing shit home he has no intention of preparing. My grandmother makes an outrageous quince paste but we have like 10kg of that shit and there's only so much of that sticky goodness one can eat.

On the bright side, my house smells awesome.

It was sweet, filled with I'm not sure what, some kind of jam maybe?. Previous anon said it could be Germknödel and that looks right to me except all the pictures I saw of it had a bunch of powdered stuff on top and the thing I had didn't have it. I had it in somebody's house so I don't know if that could be why it was slightly different.

AH! Dont know about the outside but the inside looks exactly like I remember!

Ah yes, that looks right!
As for the potato thing..it was served in a bowl as a side to a larger meal, but it was deffinitely not a potato salad. It was mostly smooth except for very, very finely chopped onions(?). It was a little acidic, could have had some yogurt mixed into the potatoes, perhaps.

Could be, looks good to me...I honestly only remember the lady cutting them open for no reason I could understand and them being outrageously good.

Some anon was talking about some weird Austrian pancake shit on another thread and I had a flashback of eating the most fucking delicious food when I was in Austria almost 10 years ago. I was wondering if anyone could figure out what some of the things I ate could be so that I can scout the internet for recipes.

Bear with me, it was a very long time ago.

1. Some kind of dumpling thing with whole plums inside them. They were about 2" in diameter, maybe. The person who cooked them didn't speak English and I didn't speak German well enough to ask what the fuck she was doing, but she opened them in the middle and inspected them thoroughly before serving them to me.

2. A sort of cold mashed potato thing with finely chopped onion or perhaps shallot?

3. Another sweet dumpling thing, largeish. About fist sized. Looked like raw bread dough.

There was more stuff but I can't think of any right now. If there are any Austrian anons around that would like to share some traditional dishes that'd be awesome! Everything I ate there was outstanding. Picture related, motherfucking schnitzel was to die for.

Goxua. It's a very sweet dessert made layering whipped cream, sponge cake, pastry cream and caramel

No, meaning my microwave is probably inconsistant since I always use the same recipe and 99% of the times it turns out beautifully. I don't really give a shit, though - by all means, do not use the recipe if you think it's some elaborate troll all of the internet is in on but yourself, but it does work.

the man who invented what?
The boiling water actually PREVENTS the can from blowing up, only way the can would blow up is if the water runs out. We already covered that in the DON'T LET THE WATER RUN OUT stage of the cooking process.

>>3947059
Glad it worked out! But seriously, you do not need to put holes in it. Cans are heated during the canning process, they won't blow up if you boil them.

Are you fucking retarded? Ive made mug brownies plenty of times. Some of the times they've turned out like shit like in OPs picture, but other times they've been really good. I always use the same recipe so I don't know what's up. My microwave does suck so I will blame it on that. The recipe is legit.

I just called my grandmother and asked her, without a pressure cooker she said to cook it for at least 3 hours, make sure the water doesn't run out and start with the can completely submerged.

Its good for filling sugar cookie sandwiches, frosting cakes and cupcakes, in plain greek yoghurt, topping rice pudding, and just eaten with a spoon. Man I want some and Im out

>> No.3946573 [View]

My grandmother makes it weekly. No holes in the can, puts in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes. Its fucking delicious and I slather it on EVERYTHING

You son of a...

To be fair, I thought fuck it and made a 1 egg batch of cupcakes and watched them closely and they baked just fine. It seems to be a little over 180C, which is what a previous anon predicted, but the cupcakes came out golden brown and yummy in just under 15 minutes. Considering I usually bake them for 17, I think I can live with my current oven!
Not that I'm not incredibly jealous of yours...

Picture related, just baked these!

And just because why not, here's the recipe for the cupcakes

42g / 1/3 of a stick of butter, room temp
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg, room temp
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat your oven to 180C/350F, IF YOU ARE ABLE TO UNLIKE ME
Beat the sugar and butter until fluffy.
Add the egg and beat well.
Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and add half to the wet mix.
Incorporate the milk and vanilla.
Add the rest of the dry.
Bake for ~17 minutes.
Enjoy!

If that's the case I could totally work with that.
I just cleaned it as thoroughly as I could and turned it on, it's smoking up a storm but I'm not really bothered. I guess I'll let it burn whatever shit I couldn't clean (like around the coils) and try to actually bake with it tomorrow.

Yeah, I am sure. There is only one dial for the oven. I don't even understand why they would make it that way. I felt stupid for a while, like I was missing something, but I asked a neighbour to come look at it, hoping they had the same over and would be able to help me, but I had no such luck!

The fries idea is good, cheers for that.

I know this is kind of out there but I hope one of you will be kind enough to help me.

I just moved to a place with an ancient range and the oven only has three settings:
Top
Bottom
Top and bottom

I will be buying an oven thermometer but I will have to buy it online and it will take a while to arrive so I was wondering if any of you kind /ck/ooks would be willing to help me with this experiment.

Since most things are baked at 350F/180C, I would like a willing participant to stick a few slices of bread in their oven at 350F/180C for, say, 15 minutes and take a picture of the result. I will, then, also stick the same amount of bread in my oven for 15 minutes and compare results, thus figuring out if any given setting of my oven is close to 350F.

I do realize this is kinda retarded and if you have a better idea, by all means hit me with it. But until I get my oven thermometer I honestly can't think of anything better and I would rather not ruin real food trying to figure the goddamn thing out.

Picture, sadly, unrelated.

Not really. Then you'd end up with a smaller batch. Baking is mostly ratios, if you alter the amount of one ingredient you have to alter all of them to end up with the same consistency and texture.

Post the recipe you used. So far it sounds like you didn't use leaveners or used them improperly

Green Organic Earl Grey. Was skeptical about it being green tea but its actually really good.

Im also getting married soon. I like your idea. What type of vessel were you thinking of using to serve them?

I kinda like all those nostalgia jello and mayo recipes.
