Oh! I missed the bit about Amaretto. It is also a great choice for eggnog.

Eggnog is a very rich, heavy drink - combining egg and milk, sweetened and cinnamon and nutmeg!

It's mildly spicy and is supposed to be a soul-warmer. The main modern focuses are on richness and sweetness, followed by cheerful spices.

Tartness or chili-type heat is unforgivable by modern standards.

Brandy also has the smoothness the recipe dictates, it's a fine pick.

>> No.4013155 [View]

Traditionally you want to use a sweet, smooth alcohol and not something hard-edged.

Rum over Whiskey, definitely.

Oh, if you do this - don't eat the seeds.

You are acting on reflex.

To kick yourself outta reflex mode, do something completely outside your routine. Example:

Go into grocery store. Buy fruit, veg. At least 1 red bell pepper.

While heading home, eat the bell pepper like an apple. Almost nobody does this and it will kick your eating habits out of reflex...

then just cook when you get home. And make an effort to stay out of the sweets.

the worst part is, in a post disaster scenario where getting water can be difficult, a shortfall of sodium will cause the body to dehydrate more quickly... with salt, basically, the less you eat the more critical you get it regularly.

A week of disaster recovery and a person can go from eating a whole bag of Lay's salted saltato chips with salt flavoring, to savoring a single pack of saltines, because their body is just plain out of salt.

That campfire packet looks downright passable.
As in, pass me one.

Lucky you.

You're a jerk, asswipe

I don't like mushrooms either. You think I'm gonna bitch at my mom about it? No. I'm gonna eat my shit like I'm told.

And because I'm a good boy, my mom doesn't PUT mushrooms in my food unless she has to. That's called being family.

>> No.4013126 [View]

That's right. Because people in stressful situations where their food intake is zero, need to be concerned about not taking in salt, sugar and fat.

Except no.
That's backwards.
In a survival situation every calorie counts, and you're a moron.

I just listened to that song to figure out your post.

=(
I'm ashamed of you.

You get brownie points for Cooking Genesis Evangelion.

Some of the most basic "Oh duh I could make that" things to bring include:

- Mashed potatoes. These can be served straight up and people will adjust them to suit their taste.
- Bagged chips or drinks. A 2-liter of soda is a good emergency choice.

But who cares about doing things like that?
The vast majority of dishes and sides in Thanksgiving potlucks are heavy, fattening, salty and otherwise palette-overloading.

You can be the mercy of the party by bringing something light and clean to the menu, such as steamed asparagus, or broccoli and lemon.

>> No.4013103 [View]

Already ate thanksgiving early, well brined turkey, ham, potato rolls, cranberry sauce, mushroom salad, Yam-and-marshmallow casserole, Roasted brussels sprouts, Mini quiches, Green Bean Casserole, classic mashed potato (Straight up!), Mini cheesecakes, Egg Nog, rootbeer, and orange-and-vanilla floats for the finish.

Cheers

If you have bayleaves you'll be fine.

Garlic can be diluted ... Ginger will just permeate

Ginger is worst and salt second worst.

>> No.4013078 [View]

Ginger is O.K. but is easily overused.
Nothing can ruin food more consistently, more totally, more absolutely 100%guaranteed,

than a ginger overdose. No one can eat it.

no bitch

I think I want some of this.

He's right.
Texas BBQ is nothing like the rest of the south, Louisiana and Florida are also totally unique, and Western BBQ is also quite different.
