Piggybacking on the blouse thread, let's talk about these underrated main pieces. Post inspo and discuss:
>what you most like about skirts in general
>your favorite design features, e.g. high waist, bustles, etc.
>how you like to coord them
>the skirt to dress ratio in your wardrobe
>why skirts are less popular

I guess it's a matter of preference? I think both are gorgeous, but I would probably wear the skirt more often since my personal style leans away from fancy. I love how that particular coord shows off the details of the blouse, too. I find that getting more skirts has actually increased my appreciation of blouses in general because I can actually see them now!

Does anyone have any tips on neatly tucking blouses into skirts? I recently got pic related and I've found it looks so awkward with skirts since the shirred part ends 2-3 inches above the waistband, so there's an awkward bulge of fabric. Or should I not even bother and save it for high waisted cuts and JSKs only?

>> No.9964526

Tucking the blouse into your tights or bloomers waistband works well. It can be uncomfortable though.
One problem I've been having with skirts is they seem generally small. At least the ones I buy.. than on top of that you have to tuck your blouse in. I have mild stomach problems and hate the extra tightness on my stomach

>>9964526

Thanks, I'll try it with a bustier, and if that still doesn't work I'll probably just abandon ship. I've found it tricky because most of my skirts are high waisted, and for the ones that aren't, I've just used a shorter blouse / cutsew with ruffles at the hem and left it untucked.

>> No.9964557

>>9964555
Oops, just missed your reply. I already tuck them under my petticoat waistbands, and since I almost always wear multiples I find it keeps them quite secure. I think it's just the particular cut of my cutsew that's the problem since the shirring is right under the bust. It might sound counterintuitive, but have you tried shapewear? I've read it can help distribute the tightness of the waistband onto a wider area.

Get a good lolita cutsew or blouse, preferably one that has a short bodice and is meant to be worn untucked, and make sure your skirt fits you well because if it squeezes you in, it'll be obvious and not really flattering.
Normie tops like the one in the pic you posted usually don't cut it because they're too simple, and while some lolita tops are equally simple, many of them are designed in a way that allows them to stand on their own in a coord, so to speak, so they look good with a skirt.
Pic related isn't really a whole coord but illustrates what I mean. Unless I misunderstood what you mean when you asked for suggestions, in which case please do clarify.

>> No.9977489

When I do casual skirt coords, I always make sure that the top half has a smaller element matching the skirt's color. I think that really helps tie it in together. In your pic, the red bow thing is an alright example.

I also agree with >>9977484 on having a dedicated lolita cutsew or blouse, preferably with a ruffle along the hem so you can wear it untucked (usually more flattering). My favorite ones have detachable neck ribbons. I've built up a largeish collection of them now so I can switch out different colors of ribbons for color balance.

Yeah, I could see that. Most of what I wear is modern and the waist on AP's cutsews/blouses just don't fit me well. For modern sweet, it seems to be more commonly tucked in. Luckily the waistbands tend to be more detailed so I guess this is fine.

Oh definitely, that needs to be covered somehow.

I guess in my mind was AP's skirts, which always have an interesting waistband and their cutsews which, with the ruffle like you were referring to, makes them rather large at the waist. It looks better tucked in for that, at least in my mind. I thought fully shirred skirts were more rare or just Meta's leftovers.

The last year I’ve really been working on my skirt/cutsew collection in my wardrobe and find myself wearing skirts more often than my dresses (even though I have probably a third of the amount). I think they fell out of style because finding the right top can be difficult; something that doesnt bunch up horribly, or unflattering shirring, or the right details. I hope brands start bringing them back more regularly again, i got super excited when I saw the rerelease of the skirt cut for holy lantern! And the pintuck release had a skirt too, so I’m hoping theyre making a comeback.

I feel like 99% of the people that think coording skirts is harder than JSKs just do not have nice blouses and cutsews

Im saying more as a general population thinking its difficult, just based on others telling me. I personally love cutsew/skirt combos or even simple blouses with cute cardigans, but i also like toned down basic coords and dont like doing it up often

It's harder to do without looking same-y unless you have corsets or jackets and a lot of accessories to play with, especially if your wardrobe has a limited color palette. With skirts having a well rounded and reasonably diverse wardrobe is really important, and it becomes obvious quickly when you don't have that.

How is that easier with a JSK or OP? With a skirt you see more difference when you wear a different top

I find it harder because I hate how a tucked-in blouse will always "bag" out, but cutsews often don't have as many little details. Also, for me cutsews tend to be quite loose/baggy around the waist compared to the skirt waistband which I also hate. I basically only wear corset skirts to avoid the issue.
