It was pretty shitty when Mystery Skulls announced they were doing a concert on AX weekend with little fanfare, at the last minute, and at a location offsite that just screamed Muggings and Murders R' Us. Would have loved to have seen those guys live but even I have limits.

Made about as much sense as withholding announcing Porter Robinson as a headliner until almost 24 hours before he was set to perform.

and a few misc people that show up from now and then. Usually gulls stand around for 30-45 minutes, then go to prearranged parties, go to the bar, or go back to the con. Mostly during the meetup people talk about how the con is going what they bought, things they saw, share pics and generally chill. That's about it, not sure what else there is to say, never been to a bad one but I wouldn't miss a panel for it.

The problem is that AKB48 and their other unit groups are so poorly marketed here. Love Live has a better anime and game going for them. Hence why Aqours is almost sold out and Kawaii Live is doing so bad. AX may as well at this point start giving out free tickets to Kawaii Live to not piss off the groups management.

I remember they were desperately trying to give out free tickets to one of the Japanese bands that came out in 2010 because it wasn't sold out and from what I heard it was a ghost town during their performance. AX needs to consult with AWM about either lowering tickets for Kawaii Live or give them out for free and eat up the cost because it is going to look really bad to the point that AWM might want to break relations with AX.

How's your cosplay coming?
In the last thread I mentioned how the costume I was so excited to get in the mail (after waiting 3 weeks) arrived and didn't fit by a mile. Since then, I was able to trade with someone I connected with in a buy & sell group of Facebook. It arrived yesterday and everything fit perfectly! I've given it an iron and now I'm just waiting on some wefts to finish Tsu's hairbow. I just have to finish the wig and I'm con ready!

Does anyone have any "unfinished business" or unmet goals they're going to reach for this AX? Like obviously getting to a fitness goal for a cosplay or just for extra confidence, but I also mean stuff like getting a commission from a certain Artist Alley vendor that you couldn't get for some reason, or maybe you've been practicing your drawing skills to have a better shot at winning that Wacom tablet prize. Convention discords or facebook groups are a good place to start. There's usually at least a few open invite parties to meet people and network from there. Chatting with people taking smoke breaks/getting some air is another way to potentially get invited somewhere. Socializing with neighbors who are hanging out in the halls can also work. Since you are rooming nearby they will know you arent a random looking for free booze.

Since a lot of people are thinking of lines to get badges or tickets when they respond to this, if your friend is talking about the lines just to enter the convention center formed due to poorly staffed bag checks then just keep this in mind:

-Check weather forecasts a day or so before you plan on doning particularly stifling cosplay and plan accordingly; if the weather is fair then you can probably survive outside for a spell but if it's above 85 degrees then try to make it to the con before 10am where the shade offered by the tall buildings provide at least some areas of relief. The last two years haven't been that hot IMO, and I constantly wear tight-fitting black clothes so I feel your pain.

-People immediately see the lines forming in front of the main entrances and join them without thinking. One of the big lessons I learned from last year that would've saved me 45 minutes of line waiting is that there are multiple entrances into the Convention Center that have little to no waiting due to how out of the way they are, since I'm guessing a lot of attendees are unfamiliar with the area. There's an entry up the stairs on Pico Rd between the two main buildings that was pretty reliable, and I believe there was another from the parking garage if your desperate, but ask around and study up and you'll avoid one of the biggest line inconveniences that most of us shouldn't have to deal with.

oh man. The senpaisquad party has been the butt end of a joke at local itasha meets for the last few years. I looked into it since he said they did it last year, and i'm always down for booze and anime. First of all, it was hosted out in the fucking boonies of skidrow in some industrial park. Whole part was probably 10:1 guys/girls ratio and all the girls were there with their boyfriends. Music courtesy of some fucking craigslist DJ. Alcohol sucked. Place was packed but nothing fun really. The most surprising thing was, obviously, a bunch of senpaisquad tables dedicated to selling his marked up "side hustle" merch. Whole thing was not worth any sort of money and the gist of it is your brown asian manlet made 10 grand charging fuckheads to go to an exhibit hall masqueraded as some sort of bangin warehouse party.
