I’m struggling with my group right now. We always get together to work so we can help each other out and get things done faster, and that was going wonderfully for the most part. However, these past two weeks they just don’t want to do anything. Friend A is in charge of sewing and making pieces as neither Friend B or I know how to sew. Every time he’s about to get started he decides he just can’t get motivated and wants to go out or watch a movie. Friend B wants to do stuff, but he keeps forgetting to bring his cosplay over so we can fix it and will constantly try to get us to stop working and go to events.
How do I tell them to get their shit together?

Is it worth it to pay $60 for the whole-con night swim? Should I just buy one night swim pass for a select night (Friday or Saturday)? Or should I skip the night swim altogether and try to find other shit to do?
I’m a huge night owl (I work 3rd shift) and I don’t get tired until at least 3 am, so I’ll get bored if I don’t have something to do.

I've enjoyed the night swims before. I feel like they're best for vendors and artists because they can't really get to the waterpark any other way unless they come early or stay later. They can get pretty cramped and rowdy, especially near the hot tub bars but generally, it's a good time.

The con is my favourite. The people are my favourite. It's so relaxed. The vibe is so fun. I love this convention! I want to take part in the wig contest! I sent in a portfolio but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Fingers crossed!

Last year I had too much Kraken on the Thursday and I was pretty sick the next day. Gonna cool my alcohol intake this year and only do the mixed drinks instead of doing a bunch of shots lol.

Here's my back up, Nami's Pirate Warriors 3 Dressrosa outfit for reference since the hibiscus design isn't as prominent. Bikini bought, it fits, ruffles added on and 1000 hours of MSfabric marker. I'll even show you the clima-tact I'm painting.

The waterpark (especially the hot tub bars) is way over-crowded during the day anyway. After-hours swim is cheaper and less of a clusterfuck, though you'll need something to do during the day.

There is a way to get into the waterpark from the hotel without passing checks, but I feel like if I post it here, someone is going to report it lol.

Really don’t want to get involved in this but making swimwear is actually much more difficult than cutting out shapes; It’s one of the last classes offered in most costume design/production programs for that reason. I learned the hard way the past two Colossals that swimwear isn’t an “easy” project and requires as much effort and dedication as most costumes involving many more pieces.

Because it's athletic wear and needs to be very stretchy and water resistant, the techniques and materials used are quite different from sewing regular clothing. Even the thread you use has to be different, because cotton thread will be eaten up by chlorinated pools. There's quite a different realm of knowledge you need to have to sew a nice bathing suit. Since you imagine it's so easy, I'll challenge you to sew your own bathing suit and wear it around for a weekend, see how long it takes for it to fall completely apart on you.

It’s... not that hard. Two piece patterns are labeled as “easy” and can be done in 2 hours. Sure it might be hard if you’ve never made a bikini before but if you have it’s really simple. They even have YouTube tutorials on how to make even simpler ones. You make it sound like a big deal when it’s not. The majority of those "Easy" youtube videos are designed for people with no tits. Add in boobs in D cup and up and you need more than just strings for support. Especially if you're gonna be running and jumping around at a water park.

So your two pieces becomes: main fabric, lining, pad to prevent nip pokes, fabric for the strings, and if needing support also sewing in underwire. That's just the top.
Bottoms also need main fabric, lining, and fabric for the string.

Not to mention proper fitting and moding it.

Though mine was because it had stupid half one color, half another for each boob piece. (Rina from Digimon ReCoded) so the white fabric and black fabric wanted to look shitty on the seams.

There's always been a wooden fence there, but there's also at least one open gate in that fence, as well as a path from the sidewalk that has no gate. My friends and I have used them repeatedly over the years to when staying at the hotel so we didn't have to go all the way around.

I haven't been to the con since 2015, so idk if there's a new barrier with no gates or if they've started locking the gates.

I have seen someone jump it, but it was a drunk person at night and he got chased down by security. I'd avoid trying even sober and during the day lol.

So you have to understand that the Kalahari is a resort that is open year-round and Colossal is only around for a week out of the entire year. It's a very well-known resort in a popular vacation spot and gets a lot of traffic. The changes (extra security for the outdoor waterpark) are not to hinder con guests not staying at the Kalahari, they're for the protection of guests year round. There was a shooting there last week, yes? It's easy for people to sneak into the outdoor park without wristbands and that's a huge liability. We're not talking shootings, we're talking incidents. My boyfriend fell off one of the rides getting off last year and ended up needing medical treatment (very, VERY minor. He just has a scar on his hand and didn't need stitches), but worse incidents have or could happen. This is a waterpark, and the more people who are sneaking in and are not accounted for is definitely a concern for the resort staff. You also have to figure, you're spending all this money to go out to a vacation convention, you're going to be spending money. This isn't a convention where it's focused on the actual convention, like AX, this is purely for the waterpark, and it's pricey. Yeah, you COULD stuff 10 people into a Hut, swap waterpark passes and drink your liver away, but you gotta understand why the resort isn't a huge fan of that. Yeah, I know business and money and whatnot, but you gotta remember that you could drown on these things.

As for Colossalcon's rates going up, that's them. I'm not here for the convention, I'm here to ride waterslides and hope my wig don't fall off. And I'm fully fine with spending a fuckton of money and bunking with strangers.

It's not 70$ a day- the con gets discounted waterpark passes you can buy at con ops, this was specifically to combat the overflow once they started outgrowing the hotel. http://colossalcon.com/discounted-day-passes/

Plus it's not even a big deal. I said this earlier, but the waterpark is -packed- during the day. You're going to have to wait incredibly long lines for the rides, squeeze into the hot tub bars ass-to-ass and wait several minutes to get drinks, have lots of people in the background of any waterpark shoots. The late night swim is better in every way and its less money.

If that still kills it for you, just go to East. I know it's not in the summer like Ohio Colossal, but the waterpark is newer and better and it's way less crowded. Colossal Ohio's crowds killed the con for me, but despite the chill, East felt like pre-2015 Colossal, and there's 2 hot tub bars with one being in a glowing cave.

I've seen people wear wigs, but usually shorter wigs. The wavepool, lazy river, and anything other than the slides and coaster, people have worn longer wigs, but yeah, it's not that great for wig durability to take your wig into an over-chlorinated waterpark pool. I guess just try not to submerge or go under any water jets, and rinse your wig when you get back in your room.

I have a feeling waterpark staff wouldn't even allow people with long wigs to get on the slides and coaster for safety reasons, but I've never seen anyone actually try.

It wasn’t the kalahari, it was something called the Alakai which is 10 minutes walking distance from the kalahari...in Wisconsin. I should have looked at the place myself instead of just trusting word but whatever.

Yeap, Mike's not coming back to Programming. Running both Tech and Programming seems to be a bit much for him.

Can confirm the Troll status. It's mostly him and maybe 3-4 others trolling, the rest of programming are solid vets of other cons. Even if he table-flips, I think they'll be able to handle it.

How much of a rush is there to get a spot in the otaku flea market? Is it packed, or is it chill since most people are hungover from late night partying? I'm doing Sunday as a day trip and its my main draw since I've got a lot of shit to clear out.
In the same vein, how packed is the craft fair, and what's the quality like? Are there a lot of booths that look like AA peeps who didn't get a table decided to squat there, or does it actually feel more like a craft show?

If you're not sure what to do, go to panels and events! Anything that sounds interesting to you. I find a lot of the times after a con, when I feel like I haven't done much, I wished I had gone to more events that even seemed mildly fun. Write down times and spots of anything you might like, so if you find yourself with nothing to do around then, you don't just waste time wandering around.
