Alright, so, I have a resin base I made myself, but I need to add some structures to it; I previously used worbla, but found that it didn't stick like I wanted it to... What do you guys use? Or do I just have to and the resin down a bit more and it'll work? I basically only scratched it, because I couldn't be assed to spend hours sanding it down, but I recognize that this may not have been ideal.

Please don't ever buy from Don't Hug Cacti. She hasen't gotten any better and she's super unprofessional.

I'm super dumb for getting a suit from her.
Tbh I still don't know WHO I should have gotten one from still.

Is Mixed Candy even free from stupidity and giving bad service to people who aren't her friends??

oh what, no way. I had no idea she even had bad service since most DHC suiters don't really.. talk much about the process? what went wrong?

I've heard nothing but good about val from MC, though, if that's any reassurance. personally know 3 people with suits from her, granted one is a premade.

she rushed certain aspects and later on I learned from showing other people my suit that she used really low quality furs that are not meant to subjected to friction. Which means that I can't just walk around normally in my suit without the sides of my thighs getting matted very quickly.

The amount of brushing it takes with the slicker comb is going to wear down the fur super quickly. So why would I even want to wear it that often you know??

And the other huge glaring aspect is that I have to roll the handpaws OVER thearms of my body suit, thats right! The body suit arms are so tight that I have to so the opposite of how most suits work. It makes for a very awkward look and you can't brush the suit the right way while it's on me because the fur dosen't line up.

Thankfully it's not the same with the feet paws, but it really irks me since I gave enough allowance with the DTD, I expected someone with such a long history of suit making under their belts to be able to get that measurement right.

I could go on and on about how unprofessional she was in communicating with me as well. How she "play acted" like she was my friend in a really weird way, but I'd rather not. This is about the suit.

Please don't commission her. Spread awareness of suitmakers who spend time making sure their suits are made with the highest quality furs and have the best FIT.

Like, I paid a LOT for my suit, and it was no where NEAR the quality I would expect.

Like I think at the time, I probably paid a little bit less then what a Fursuiting suit would go for, and I know they have amazing qiality, so to get something back that I can't even wear normally for fear of it falling apart!??? That's really unacceptable.

And when I asked a little while after if I could have some fur to fix some holes, or if I could have the name, I was told that she dosen't give out the names of furs she uses.

I really want someone to redo my whole bodysuit/paws/handpaws but if I can't find the "rare" colors she told me she used I'm pretty much up a creek, yay!

oh geez, that's actually pretty bad. also not too used to seeing the fur not shaved/cleaned up between the pads either. that's a shame. did she at least give you the name of the fur? (SCRAATCH THAT just saw your new post, wow) what I was originally gonna say is that altering the sleeves shouldn't be all that tough. did she offer to make any fixes at all? because if she's not even going to give you the fur name, how the hell is your suit going to last lmao. you could try ordering fur swatches of various colors similar to see if you can do some slightly off color edits.
definitely won't be recommending them much more, even though they have seem to be phasing out lately in favor of mischief makers and sunny valley

Look, cosplayers and people who make costumes wanna talk down on furries for being "creeps and weirdos" that they don't understand but here is someone who really elevates the craft to an artwork.

I have watched Kemono Line consistently get better and better with each reiteration of their personal costume.

That's actual an old picture of their costume, here is their costume as it is now. The horns have been changed, the whole costume has been remade.

They have remade it I think about 10 times now? And each time it becomes more beautiful, more advanced!
That's what being an artist is really about, learning and evolving, and they are a master in their class.

that's totally understandable. the loudest voices are the voices most often heard. Most furries dont do obnoxious shit but the ones that do stand out. Most other folks don't care much about furries but a couple are vehemently against them and they're the ones that stand out. It's understandable to want to defend one's opinion but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

Some suiters have the opposite experience where people grab them all the time because they're in a mascot suit so it should be okay. Some of them are pretty delicate, considering.

that can be said for literally every costuming comm tho. lolita and cosplay you'll find the same shit.
people hate furries because they assume it's about real animals. and a lot of the 'older' fursuiters don't understand wearing a suit after awhile gets you stinky.

anyways, lets keep this dramu free~

the difference with suiters and people with masks/deadpools is if they get really grabby, you have a really fucking weak case against them if you can't point and say "they did it, it was them". with police/staff, it being a suit they own doesn't mean anything when they can claim they lent it to a friend for 10 minutes and the friend did it. I've been in that situation before where a suiter changed out of their suit quick and played dumb when staff got involved. no face shown means no accountability half the time.

cheap ones won't do a good job at all unfortunately. faux fur is just as thick, and sometimes actually thicker, than real dog hair and will require a pair of groomers level clippers. I always recommend the andis 2 speed clippers along with a 5, 7, and 10 blade.
granted you only plan on making small parts, a normal pair of clippers still won't do much for ya. you could always buy a shorter pile of fur like beaver, though.

Looked on their Twitter, all of them seem to have lumpy and lopsided snouts. This one is especially bad look at how the side seems to be bashed in so the nose can't sit nicely. Even the fur isn't aligned properly, look at the "eyebrows" they're clearly meant to be symmetrical but they don't match. The eyelashes look awful like they're made of felt and they have jagged edges that don't look natural. The whole head tilts to the right. It's a REALLY sloppy head and clearly the work of a new maker. There's no way this person should be even considering charging $1200 for a hack job of a fake kemono like that. $700-$900 at most.

Luna Qiqi is adorable as hell! I've seen people who try to combine fursuiting with lolita fashion and Luna looks the best (as well as accurate).

Minor errors when other people try to incorporate lolita and fursuiting that I've seen countless of times is fur color. When people have bright neon fur, it clashes with a pastel (if your going sweet style) dress. Also keep in mind the amount of padding a fursuit has while wearing a petticoat. Sometimes extra padding could make the dress look shorter

I hope to see more furries who dress in lolita fashion!

With the initial post there was nothing to indicate that it had anything going for it other than a adequate but kinda meh head. The nose looks entirely tacked on, which if its a placeholder is fine, but if its how it's supposed to look I'd consider that unacceptable at $1200. Along with the area between the plastic bubble of the eyes and the actual printed part around the edge looking kinda ragged. I don't know about uneven stitching, but the pink area does look incredibly plain, maybe add more detail in there? A lot of people who buy clothes buy them in their own size as opposed to buying in a size with their fursuit in mind. Fur adds extra inches everywhere and if it's long, it makes you look even thicker. Clothes end up looking tight and "unnatural".

>do you guys just have like one suit you wear to each event or do you guys have several you switch between?
Depends on the person, the average fursuiter'll have 1-3 (including partials) that they'll rotate around if they have more than one. Some also do the "Buy used, wear for a con or two and sell again to buy another" thing to rotate between suits.
>Arent whole suits like $3,000 and up?
Only if you look at popular makers whom massively inflate their prices. Average suit goes about up to $2000 for a fullsuit and tends to hover a bit around that that, though is far lower for partials (<$1200 for head, tail, hands & feet) that are far more affordable at the expense of it not really being a whole costume, but it's still a lot yea.

There's a lot of required foamwork for heads and padding and stuff that's usually 100% custom to the one fursuit, plus the shear amount of sewing fur around a entire body. Have no idea how that compares to general cosplay for prices because that area of things tends to be far more focused on DIY, no? Which isn't to say plenty don't make fursuits themselves, but the idea of commissioning artists over self construction is a bit of a carryover from the furry fandom as a whole, where it's quite similar to that for 2D artwork.

Hey another curious anon here:
>"Buy used, wear for a con or two and sell again to buy another" thing to rotate between suits
This part threw me off, I thought usually people wore suits of their own characters? So is it more like cosplay, like you just want to appear as a character even if someone else created it?

>> No.9873511

>>9873497
Different people do it differently.

Generally speaking in the fur world many people have a “fursona” which generally ranges from a persona that’s anthropomorphized that sort of serves as a personal mascot, to something that the person shares a feel emotional connection with, to an idealization of the traits they want to have. Because of this there are many people that get a suit of this “fursona” character and they consider it important or fun to them. This is different from cosplay for the most part as you might have a costume of a character you love but still don’t see them as your icon necessarily.

That said not every person has a fursona and you aren’t limited to one suit. Plenty of people have a fursona suit and get others they buy and sell. Some folks don’t have a fursona and just love costuming and characters. Some suits have a personality attached while others are literally “this dog looks cool”. So yeah it can be a character you want to appear as, or it can be more personal

>> No.9873517

>>9873511
Alright, thank you for explaining! That's actually pretty interesting.

>> No.9873518

>>9873497
People who commission fursuit makers for their character / fursona either are usually not going to be selling that suit for anything, but others who aren't as emotionally attached or are emotionally attached to a character but would like another suit might opt for the buy/sell rotation, probably 60/40 between people with suits who intend to keep secondary suits and people who have no intention of keeping a suit for more than a couple years.
More so than not though people sell suits for being in a financial pickle reasons over wanting to get a new suit.
Also, sometimes it can get a bit weird with people selling suits but refusing to have the character come along with it. (ie. they don't want the buyer getting art for the character, them to keep the original name, that sort of thing.) Which usually manifests as either they'll alter the suit before sending it, or as some agreement between buyer and seller in rare cases, which is incredibly dumb if you ask me.

>> No.9873521

>>9873518
Yeah to me it always seemed like fursuits were a pretty personal thing (unless they were just a recreation of an existing character from media) so I was surprised to hear about the reselling aspect.
I suppose it makes sense though if it's mainly about having financial issues or such. I imagine fursuits take up quite a bit of space to store too so I can see why you'd end up selling it if you don't get to wear it much.
Thank you for being so helpful!

NAYRT but a big part of it is the performance, creating a character and being them for a bit. Sure, you might have a character that's *yours*, just like cosplayers have staples/characters they keep returning to and rewearing, but you can still dig costumes of characters because you find them interesting or cool looking without having a deep bond. Like other anon said.
Buying 2d hand can often be a sort of adoption, but it can also just be investing in a cool look becauae suiting is fun as shit.

I'm the original anon who called out your pricing and I stand by the original comment. I've seen your twitter you're still very much learning how to make these heads and you're not a big name maker yet. $1200 is the -starting- price of a higher tier head from a known maker. Sorry to burst your bubble but outside your circle of friends and a few tweets nobody really knows who you are. That combined with your quality (as another anon ripped into) you need to be working on your heads more. You're aiming for the kemono style but it just looks like some weird cross between western and japanese, which what a lot of amateur artists starting out end up doing before they settle into a solid style. Your suits don't personally appeal to me because of that aspect, but regardless of that as a long time head maker myself with a noticeably larger reputation it took me many years of perfecting my style and making high quality heads before I even considered upping my prices. I've only seen about 3 heads from you.

See: https://youtu.be/1NM4jN69hwY?t=3m42s
you can see the suiter gestures to let Keenora know he can only see out of one eye.
A lot of the times when you see kemono suits staring right at the camera it's because the photog gets that angle even though the suiter inside likely can't see them in the blindspot. Atelier suits have around 3-4 inches between the eyes.

Wouldn't do the appliques though; I'd try to go for a more realistic look along with a part in between I can seal up with grommets (straps in middle hidden)

So there's this local yiff meet that's coming up soon and I don't have the funds for a 2k+ suit. There's going to be an orgy from what I'm seeing in the group text so I wouldn't want to get an expensive fursuit all dirty anyways. I was thinking about heading to a local fair and spending all the money I do have on one of those fair games to try and win a huge ass teddy bear to turn into a suit. I was just wondering which game should I look out for? I want something that's easy enough for me to play so that I don't have to spend too much money on. I was also wondering if anyone knew which animal I should pick once I accumulated enough points. I want something that would get me a lot of yiffing. thanks!

As genuinely moronic your plan is, I'll entertain you anyway.
Large plushies, assuming you can find one that's big enough to fit you inside, were never meant to fit people. Proportionately the people making the giant plush took no account for human anatomy when designing how it fit together, the amount of work necessary to retrofit a plush to be worn would be on par with just making a suit yourself from the get go.
Actual fursuits, along with being made with shoving a person into it in mind, have padding and/or some sort of structure on the inside with space for a person to fit into, like a molded full body glove. To do this to a plush (which is just stuffed with polyfill) you'd need to conjure up some foam head insert and the like for other body parts to have any hope of it not just flapping around awkwardly.
On top of that for the areas that'll need new fur because it's either straight up not big enough or some small part needs adjustments that'd need a insert of some sort, your straight out of luck unless you obtain multiple of the same plush to gouge for spare fur or somehow source the fur it originally was made of (not likely).
In short, buying (possibly multiple) large plushies to make a fursuit would be on par with buying PS3's to use as your primary everyday computer running some flavour of linux. Hypothetically you could, but the amount of extra redundant work over just doing it properly's not worth it.

You can't do much about it, especially since they are both premades and you didn't design your original suit yourself. My best suggestion is to treat the other one like it's your suit's "sibling". Maybe befriend whoever ends up purchasing it and coordinate shoots at cons. It might give you a more positive feel about it.

Yes, exactly I think it's too much and although it is sweet and I enjoy seeing the support from the community it's an overwhelming thing to have so many strangers messaging a little kid (she has a Twitter now and people keep tweeting art and comments at her) and saying they'll make her free fursuits and all this stuff.

>>9880380
They also hunted down and revoked the badge of whoever it was that made mean comments to/about her costume. I really don't think it can have been THAT bad that they had to do that. What if it was just someone spontaneously saying "ugh maskimals look so creepy" or something and then the little girl cried because that's what little girls do, and then that attendee gets victimized and discarded because of one stupid comment.
