As you may or may not know I've hosted several surveys in our threads in the past. These surveys are about you, our threads and most importantly, rating the Dutch conventions. All questions on this survey are optional and all data handled anonymously. In other words if you just want to rate conventions, be my guest! The global anonymous results will be shared publicly for all to see and an infograph will be created as well. Or at least, I do believe I've paid someone a few cocktails to make one for me that isn't designed in Adobe Animate...

>>9810225
Well that explains a thing or two as the comic cons do feel very similar. The biggest difference I can think off is how DCC started to focus more on things for their guests to do where ACC/RCC focuses more on celebrity guests. But with both you’re still mostly just paying to get into an overpriced dealer room riddled with bootlegs. In the end the comic cons really only are as much fun as the people you’re going with.

However I am curious on what HeroesCon will be like. Based on their website it’s this weird mix of movies, games, cosplay, comics, sports, the fire brigade and music. It’s going to be interesting to see how that will work out to say the least.

There are some people posting other cosplayers their instagram/patreon pages and saying 'Oh this is so wrong!, Why does this person post so many instagram stories!? You shouldn't buy ads!' (They consider buying ads as buying likes, you can only convince people to like or follow you if your content is actually good, that is common sense)
The people who complain may put lots of effort into good costumes. But a reminder that the people that are getting complained about are having much more fun than the ones complaining themselves.

The ironic part is, the people who complain don't even unfollow them because 'their content is relevant to them or their work is good'. Then fucking unfollow them and only look at their content when you feel like it.

Shadow got banned for obvious trolling with his acoustic "looking for a qt gf" act. The only reason he didn't get banned straight away, not even after tagging nearly every nearly girl on the Discord, is because others were having a good laugh about it. We already decided to ban these kind of people straight away in the future as it eventually killed the mood for us all.
The fact that the Discord is related to /cgl/ doesn't give one the right to join just for to sake of trolling, nor to behave like an obnoxious asshole. Every board has a different culture and while that kind of stuff may be okay on /b/, /int/ and /pol/, on /cgl/ it is not. 4chan being an everything goes place is something from the days of old and has changed a long time ago.

>> No.9813103 [DELETED]

Kek, you guys actually think I was trolling? I am genuinely looking for a qt gf, especially since I never have had one in my entire life. The reason why I am on cgl (discord) is because I have the best chance at finding a qt gf who shares the same interests (anime, manga, vidya, Lolita)

The fact that everyone thinks I'm trolling just shows how delusional normies are in their worldview, which is there is someone for everyone and 'just b urselfff xDdddd'

There's no problemen in cosplaying a character if you like the design. As long as you have some basic info about the character and show. Will save you the trouble of "oh, this design is from a hentai movie?".

I'm from sweden and I'd like to visit a con in the netherlands, judging from the survey AnimeCon, Elfia and Abunai seem to be the nice ones but which one is the biggest? Is the dutch con similar to the american?

>> No.9814685

>>9814666
Animecon has the biggest and most high quality program, the location also allows for a lot of sleeping options, with several hotels in walking distance.

Abunai is the best example of Dutch "gezelligheid". The venue is pretty cozy and there is a very scenic bar, reminiscent of an Abbey. They are growing out of room quickly though, and getting a hold of a hotel room at the venue is really difficult each year.

Elfia doesn't focus on anime and Japanese popculture like the previous two, but is instead focussed on the (high fantasy scene). It is also held outside in castle gardens, so you better pray for good weather. Most of their program is fantasy oriented, think jousting demonstrations, folk rock bands, your typical renaissance fair. There are lots of weebs and comic enthousiasts walking around, but the focus is on people that build amazing elaborate fantasy costumes.

We also have comic cons in the Netherlands, which are a lot like their US counterparts. Big vendor halls, (semi)famous guests. However we tend to be not very keen on those. Comic cons are relatively new here, whereas J-pop conventions have been around longer. So those have set the standard with packed programs.

I said the group Viencon is targeting, aka photogs and cosplayers, are usually poor, young students.
Also a day ticket would be a great source of revenue beacause its a second "cheaper" option.
Also most people with a job will have to ask for days off. Calculate that they are a week after Abunai/Gamescon and the week before Connichi.

Wow Anon, you're out of touch. In many muncipalities people have to actually work for their bijstand (I had to) and apply to jobs every week, with a minimum of 5 a week. That's one every day. The last time I was in the Bijstand, I applied to over 200 jobs over the course of 6 months. It's not that I didn't try anon. It's very obvious you've never been in that situation, but there's nothing more soul destroying than being in a situation where you want to work, but for some reason you can't find a job, and have people like you judge all the time, thinking we don't do jack shit.

But I also know that if you would take any job just to do something, even if its cleaning the street or whatever it is also not that hard. Many people also act like its a right to be able to do what they like nowadays. But its not a right its something you have to work towards to. And to be honest from what your saying I wasnt even talking about you. Its fine to fall back to wellfare once a while if for some reason you lost your job or whatever. Atleast you where activly looking and wanting to work. So yeah I wasnt even talking about you. I was talking about those poeple who are without a job for years and keep spending money they dont have on cosplay and cons and end up in huge debts and so on and then come complain on social media how shit their life is. Lets be honest you can’t deny there are allot of these people in the dutch cosplay com. If I dont have money I dont go out buying a ton of cosplays and spend whole weekends at cons. Allot of people just dont seem to have their priorities straight.

>> No.9818387

>>9818370
My language is strong because you look down on people who are without job for whatever reason. 98% of people in that position WANT a job. And the rules state that you MUST TAKE ANY JOB OFFERED TO YOU. Refusing them meant no money that month. But for that to happen, a job must be offered first. If you don’t comply with the 5 times a week rule, you’d get a cut in your ‘payslip’ for that month as well. That’s why my language is strong. It’s because it’s not at all like the image people have of it. Of just doing nothing and enjoy riches. Because that’s not how it works.

Those who do may very well do so because it’s all they have to maintain some sort of purpose or happiness. I did too. I just accepted the consequences and knew I’d eat bread for a week. But it doesn’t take the depression away for not being able to afford the most basic of things.

A bill is €100, but if I only have €90, I’m not going to be able to pay that bill. No job means no money either. Sell things? I barely had anything left to sell that was worth anything at all. So how do you get money? You don’t. So instead you spend it on food, clothes or other things you ‘need’.

I’m glad the Netherlands has this sytem at all. It prevents huge amounts of homelessness, suicides, and crime.

Maybe you have a point about those cosplayers and I may know some of them, but you’re not helping them by reinforcing the stigma that they’re all lazy pieces of shit that don’t do anything, because most of the time that’s far from the truth.

It’s a post from the guy who made that unofficial Dutch cosplay blacklist a while ago. He has been making a lot of these kind of posts on IG and Facebook for a while now. Making threats, telling everyone he doesn’t like to get cancer, how he enjoyed killing someone on the train and such. Someone saw enough reason to tip the police about his threats and the police took the tip seriously.

During RCC the police requested him to report at the local police station for questioning, which he did. Afterwards he changed his story to him having been arrested for planning a terrorist attack and threatened to sue the police. A few days later he did an interview with the Telegraaf but they never published his story, likely as the only thing to report was ‘Guy gets questioned after making threats on the internet’. He then started a witch hunt against the person he believed had tipped the police, how he would get sued as well and demands everyone to unfriend him. Pretty ironic considering this guy supports CABNL and promised his cosplay blacklist would not be used to start witch hunts...

I find it odd how Viencon has been pushing the whole “we need X more bookings or the con gets cancelled” thing to begin with. Those posts truly aren’t reassuring to those having doubts on whether or not they should book a cottage. Besides it even feels a bit like guilting people who are having doubts or are not going by continuously stating the con would get cancelled if they don’t meet the required bookings. And now after months of sad posting and missing two quotas they suddenly come with this option? Seriously?! Maybe they should had gone with this option from the start instead of continuously giving everyone doubts on if this event would even take place in the first place.

With that being said, I do feel like Viencon would be better off continuing with their plans. That way they would gain some well-needed experience as well as points to improve on both their organisation and execution of the con. Not to mention how that way they would actually build a reputation instead of being known as “that con that got cancelled twice”. However, they will have to inform everyone on what these changes will bring and how it changes their promise of a “weeb only vacation”. Actively offering refunds to those who already booked would also be the right thing to do here, even if it means just keeping a small group happy.

They’ve also stated that once they run out of cottages you can still rent a regular cottage at a higher price but won’t be allowed in at any Viencon events. In that case why not just sell separate “Viencon Access Tickets”? There are plenty of people who won’t purchase their tickets until the very last minute, not to mention that way day visitors could also be a thing. The more people you have at your event the more mouth-on-mouth advertising you’ll get at the next edition. Besides any additional income should get a warm welcome at this point.

I too wouldn’t mind sharing the park with regular visitors that much. Those people can be found at any convention and when on your way to one anyway. However I can definitely understand some people would not like having regular families staring at them all weekend. Viencon was originally presented as a vacation where one would be surrounded only by fellow cosplayers, photographers and weebs. As I mentioned in >>9823275, if Viencon decides to change that formula they should notify everyone on what this change realistically means to their visitors and give those who are no longer interested in their con the option to get a refund.

>> No.9824126

>>9824069
Viencon does not lack promotion. All major conventions and side groups have been promoting them for ages.
Their problem is a staff group that obviously does not know what it is doing. And took the organisation of an event way too lightly. Most important part when organizing anything is being able to negotiate with a location, finances and know when you can expect tickets to sell.
They were too pragmatic with thier "we are innovative", "weeb vacation", "Photog and cosplayer wet dream". And expected people to flock to buy tickets. And as stated wayyyy too many times before; made dumb choices based on this.

All in all Viencon was a dumb idea that should have stayed a group joke. Beacause now it has turned into a community joke.

>> No.9825092

I'm wondering why they organized it on the exact same way as the first attempt. They changed nothing on the formula or type of promotion. Yet they still expected a different outcome.

If any of the staff is reading this, here are some friendly hints.

Change the name. Your name is now: "we went tot the pool once and made a joke, now you can be part of that joke"

Make the event attractive for non-cosplayers. So that x can come with her bf/gf/friends/husband/wife.

List your events way earlier. Now you ask me to pay for a "maybe pool party" 6 months in advance. You offer nothing more.

Stop sounding so desperate, it makes me feel even more like you have no clue what you are doing. I'd be happy to help some cosplay initiative that might fail. But not with 100+ euros.

Stop making all the noob mistakes. The above list should not even exist if you would have had just one person with experience between you. Ffs, all of you have contacts, how about asking for tips. Then again, for some reason every new con does that anyway.

>> No.9825123

What Op post is correct. Its what everyone is complaining about.

If Viencon staff would pull their head out of their asses they would notice this.

In the end as a organization you are working for your customers aka the people who are going to pay for the event. Crying about how much 'You' as an organization want things to be the way 'You' want is wrong.
Want to do shit your way and have fun with friends, go ahead rent a house for the weekend and have a ball.
Want to host an event for 600 people please your customers first.

Viencon is a great idea. The only things that are wrong are marketing and timing. Other events suck at activities. Abunai has the worst management but is slowly getting better. Seriously, Viencon has barely anything. No timing, no markerting, barely a program, no organisation, not even a decent name. The only thing they have is a location and a concept. You can just see the inexperience and never the real commitment to make it work.
You can try all you want, but like OP, I am not convenced and I'm not going to spend 100+ euro on that looks like a decent idea but at the end is just something so we can be part of the joke.

So read up, this is about why I want to go and not to convince you: So at least you agreed the location is good, that already had most people I know, everyone who does want to go knows it will get better after the first try. You are right about the program it has alot less stuff, But (for me) it only has stuff I actually would visit at other cons, it misses all those things in its program which I dont care about: the gaming compos (meh), and 90% of the newbie workshops. (Probably alot more of those programs will be added, it was already stated, Yes the program is growing btw) I do like the Cosplayers and they have some of the most famous cosplayers (Reika) coming to judge and alot of the better cosplayers from NL are coming as well. And stop comparing the price its still cheapest convention when you want to stay for the entire weekend. With the exception that it doesnt have daytickets ofc. On a very friendly tone: without a program (let's at least agree that 3 compos, a photography workshop and 4 cosplayers is not much of a program), little commercials and no history or even people involved in organizing conventions, there is not much that tells me to spend 100+ Euro and my weekend on.
It is not about being against Viencon, just about this entire board wishes them well. It is just that they seem intend of begging people to buy tickets, while they did not offer much clue as what to buy tickets for.
As for the guests. Well, it is nice that Mitzuki got Viencon to pay for some friends to fly over, but Reika has been in the Netherlands three times by now, and TaeYeon is even here this Animecon for the third time.

That is, at the end, what we are discussing here. The organization failed to make a case for enough people to go, points for the case have been discussed here extensively, and no matter how much you can say they do great work, missing this many reservations is a fact. They have a shitty reachability. And they can't even get enough money to pay for the location, what makes you think they will have enough money to pay for a shuttle bus.

I think Tomo knows an address for cheap shuttlebus rent. Is the Viencon foundation member of Anigenda?

No. Viencon isn't a foundation. They are commercial, just like DCC and such. That's why they can't be member of Anigenda. It's only for non-profit conventions.

>If you (in the future) ever have questions or remarks that involve me, please have the decency to approach me directly because I would respect you more if you would have thr courage to do that.

I think it is better to contact Viencon instead, part of the professionality. But okay, that is my opinion.

Just the fact that the post is written in pre-school level English. It met be Gio himself.
In basis he is ot a bad guy. he just has the IQ of a Potato. So he is one more person that should not be organizing conventions.
