Does anyone know where I can find some cute floral bedclothes with bigger flowers?
I have some with small flowers, but it feels a bit cluttered almost
Also, I don't want to get something from aliexpress or ebay or something, I'm kinda picky with bedclothes and if they're bad I have a really hard time sleeping

Posting some inspo to get the thread going a bit, might be stuff from previous threads though

My boyfriend and I are going to move in with some friends next year, and we managed to get the entire attic, and I've never had the chance to work with so much space so I'm a bit lost.

Right now, my biggest concern is clothing storage. We both have a LOT of stuff, and we're only guaranteed to have the two tiny closets (one is a full size, can fit maybe 25 shirts comfortably, other is a tiny waist-high that is honestly useless) and a dresser that I might reject anyways because of how worn it is. Any ideas or tips on how I can make this layout better?

Asking for help on something a little more difficult. The lighting in my room is starting to stress me out. My walls are painted an ugly yellow-peach color and I can't repaint them because rental, and it's giving everything a pee-colored overlay. Would replacing my ceiling fan's yellow light make a difference?

>pic related, it's the lighting

>> No.9792355

>>9792349
Yes, it'll make things less yellow if you have quite lighting. Heck, even get some cheap white LED string lights up in there (not in the fan, in other areas of the room).

>>9792286
Maximise vertical length storage if you can. Dresser space is generally better than hanging space if you can reach it, you can get more stuff in the same space if it's folded and in drawers. Some people use full height shelves and have wheeled boxes. Try and incorporate more storage in or under any tables, on top of cabinets, the bed etc. If you live somewhere with distinct seasons, under bed/high up storage is generally good for switching warm/cold weather wardrobes

Have many gulls successfully restored, painted, or otherwise modified furniture? I'm currently on a mission to get my room mostly matching, but I'm a goth in a room with cream walls, yellow lighting, off white doorframes, and white/silver curtains; the one redeeming feature is dark charcoal carpet. So my plan is to paint as much furniture as I can black and go from there...

>> No.9792890

>>9792853
I paint/restore old busted up furniture for a living and it’s honestly not hard. Just be sure to sand anything you want to paint and get it super clean before laying down color.

Don’t fall for that “you don’t have to sand or prime with this paint, just go for it” gimmick, sand everything always.

How viable is this as a business? I’m between jobs due to a move and have a lot of (amature) experience fixing up furnature and homes. I’m not in love with the idea of going back to my old industry and have been considering something like this for cash flow

>> No.9793021

Yup, definitely planning to sand everything back - my sewing cabinet is laminate but I think that should be ok with light sanding and the right primer/paint from what I've read online, worst case scenario I end up doing some pinteresty mod podge kinda thing with it or a vinyl wrap.

Depends on if you can get good deals on furniture close to you. A lot of the people I see trying to make this work for them end up wasting their profit margins on gas and materials.

A lot of what I get is through garage sales and auctions within a 15mi radius from my store, that way I can grab easily finished pieces before we open and have them ready to go by lunchtime. Chest of drawers and dressers are easiest to offload if you want to have this as a side job or something. For example, I try not to spend more than $75 on either one and usually sell at $300-450 depending on color/hardware/etc.

For the goths of the thread, Voltaire actually has a series about decor and the like. It was actually mentioned here once. I'm not even a goth myself (my room could probably fit in happily in these threads in the "FUCK, THE BRIGHTNESS BURNS MY EYES" department) but I do love me some good old-fashioned "giant dark vampire castle on the cliffside swarming with bats and other spooky things" kinds of aesthetics.

Thanks for making me feel like things aren't completely hopeless! I've made a start and this is the corner that matches my eventual goal the most (minus the mess that's happened while this has all been going on...). I am planning a bunch of frames over the desk and to line the coffin in dark plum velvet before adding more shelves to it. Hats and stuff stacked on the rack need better storage systems which I'm working on. The not quite visible sewing cabinet is dark "walnut" laminate which I actually ended up taking off, so I'm looking for self stick vinyl floor tiles rather than painting the chipboard directly. It's a toss up between "black marble tiles" and "gloss black tiles" to match the rest right now as the fake wood stuff is crazy expensive

Regarding the bed you can’t paint: Is that lofted? And is it possible to get a very large, gauzy fabric you can drape over it (potentially canopy style) so that it doesn’t ruin the vibe of the rest of the room?

Yup, it's lofted. I'm planning a canopy in the style of this picture with some white fairy lights, and keeping my bedding all black and white. I use the edge of the wardrobe rack as a bedside and access clothing stored under the bed, so covering the bedframe would not work well for daily use.

I thought it might be easier having two distinct areas rather than forcing the goth thing, since my normie wardrobe sits under the bed, like having a goth side and non goth side of my room. I also wondered about black roses/barbed wire to wrap the supports in so it looks like the goth side is encroaching on the normie side, but I'm worried it'll just look odd.

I work at an antique store and much of my furniture comes from there. The details are really nice and ornate, the pieces are way sturdier than anything you could find today, and most of it is under $200. If you've got a local mid-tier antique store (NOT a thrift shop or a super high-end antique store) check there and check regularly. Estate sales as well.

>> No.9809151

>>9809013
If you live in the US, check out Habitat thrift stores, they carry mostly furniture and fixtures. It depends on your area for how good it is, but I've found some great stuff cheap. Also, I agree with the other anons, mid range antiques shops wind vintage shops are good. I would even check into vintage clothing shops: there's one in my area that sells clothes and records but they occasionally get furniture.

>> No.9809155

>>9809013
It's the time/money/quality thing again. If you don't have money, you spend time looking at estate sales, on craigslist, on ebay, antique stores, yard sales etc. or you spend time restoring cheaper but not quite perfect items. If you just want a certain look, then of course you can probably find something beat up at a reasonable price, but it might come with serious issues like borer, broken butts, major damage. If you just want nice stuff and you spend lots of time working, you pay for it.

Personally I'm pretty cheap since I rent and I know eventually I'll get my own place, so I went the route of finding furniture that fits in my room and has the right shape, then doing less expensive things like painting, replacing handles etc.

You'll have to spend a lot of time if you don't have a lot of money. I spent a very long time collecting everything for a goth-themed bedroom. The most expensive thing is furniture, but you have to decide if that's a splurge that is worth it. I spend about $300 on a wrought iron-looking twin bed, 30$ on bedding, 60$ on a wire frame shelf, and another $60 on curtains... that last one would be less, but I had a broken closet to cover up. Otherwise, everything else in the room would range from free to $10. I either end up finding everything from other people's junk or make small purchases over time when I see something at a good price. The black light came from a dumpster, wall decals came from Halloween section, the fossil came free from a local store, the large frame painting came from family's trash...

It does cost money, but it's something I'm willing to pay for because I spend a lot of time in my room.

Any inspo pics for cute/kawaii walk in wardrobes? Bf wants to build a house with a big walk in wardrobe in/next to the bedroom for my lolita

also, random note about romapri-- I wouldn't recommend their storage pieces. I got their dresser and it's so shit, it has no drawer slides so you're constantly jostling the dresser trying to get the drawer out. It feels cheap overall.

I recommend a day-bed and some cute wall decor. If space and/or budget is limited, by smaller pieces of furniture that can be folded or tucked away. Vinyl sticker sheets (the ones that come in a roll) can add a bit of colour if you have furniture that is an ideal shape but doesn't match your aesthetic colour-wise (they're also removable if you don't like the way it looks). A dark red persian carpet would also look nice!

Do any gulls have recommendations on how to choose a bed size for your room? Both a double and kingsize would fit but is there a rule of thumb for which works better, especially if you have free standing storage etc.

>> No.9855924

>>9855912
Not really. I mean, as long as you have enough room for furniture and walking space, it only comes down to personal comfort and aesthetics. Do you need the extra bed space of a kingsize? Are you sleeping next to someone else every night, or preparing for the possibility of doing so? Do you have a large room that you want to make seem smaller or a smaller room you want to make more comfortable? I will say one thing, it's a lot easier to find nice (and more affordable) sheets for a queen size than a king. size
