HOW do you guys deal with polyester blouse/OP stank?? I wear deodorant and even on cool days where I don't sweat, the armpit area still gets really smelly. I can never wear a polyester blouse all day to class because by the end it just stinks. I never buy polyester OPs because what's the point? It sucks because so many cute tops are polyester and I'm just baffled, who wears this stuff??? What am I doing wrong?

I've had this problem for a while and have switched deodorants a few times. Right now I use pic related (it has no antiperspirant/aluminum) and it makes a huge difference with normal clothes...but not polyester.

Just wanted to add that I'm a white girl and I used to have an issue with smelly pits (not so much sweaty just... smelly...) and deodorants like Secret and other stuff aimed at women always made me smell worse for some reason. Like flowers mixed with BO. Somehow worse than just straight BO.

Switching to the Dove Men's deodorant has been my saving grace. I literally never smell anymore and usually only apply once every other day

I only use antiperspirant at work and when I sweat a lot. For a day sitting in class I don't need it. It stains white blouses and the smell gets stuck in my clothes, it's much fouler than just sweat, no thank you.

I don't have much fat and especially when I was in college just sitting in class, I would be freezing cold sometimes and get even colder because I would start sweating from being so cold. Nowadays I wear thermals under my clothes at the office and I don't get the cold sweats as much. It's weird, I'm at a normal weight I just am always cold and it makes me sweat if I don't have enough layers.

That's why I love lolita, all the layers keep me so comfortable

Antiperspirants will ruin your clothes, I would not recommend them, especially those containing aluminum as they've been linked to breast cancer and carry that risk (though still being studied).

The best thing to do is get an all-natural deodorant and reapply throughout the day. If you start getting sweaty/smelly, cary wipes to freshen up with then re-apply. However, I have the issue with polyester as well and am still trying to figure it out. Freshening up after a few hours helps immensely, but still no easy fix like when I was using antiperspirants, which have ruined too many things of mine. Once the smell gets into the polyester, then the item needs to be washed, so try to keep clean/reapply before that happens.

Until studies come out shooting down the numerous links found, then I prefer playing it safe. Remember, smoking didn't cause cancer until the 1950s-60s, just all of the side-effects of smoking did, because the causation wasn't researched (and was heavily lobbied against).

I will say that as a kid of a woman who had breast cancer who had to do stuff like throw out all the deodorant when one dubious study comes out, literally everything has a study somewhere with inconclusive evidence saying it may cause cancer.

I’d suggest really doing research and understand what papers are saying before taking things like “research is still being done” and running with it.

I'm southeast asian, and it's not completely 0 smell. Not enough to warrant washing clothes each time you wear them, though. Probably about 3 wears before the smell starts getting onto clothes. Some still use deodorant.

I'm specifically looking at the starbucks cherry blossom collection thats coming out in march/april, most SS are usually booked up soon as photos go live and the ones i know charge $60-90 for a 2500-4000 yen tumbler pre shipping/fees when theyre already have orders for over 50 cups. In this case its probably better for a non tokyo based pick up.

this is a weird question but I'm a new lolita and I was wondering how I can go about making cotton torchon? lace look un-crumpled? ironing? my friend left lolita and gave me a few of her items. they are all really nicely taken care of, but the lace on one of the skirts seems to be kinda... crumpled, like it had been washed and shrunk a bit? I don't know how to explain it, but all the other torchon lace on my stuff is super flat and detailed and looks so nice.

If you wash them again (they should be fine to hand wash) then you can stretch the lace out straight when you hang it to dry. It's crumpled because the lace wasn't stretched back out when it was wet. You might be able to do it with an iron and a wet cloth but the former is easier.

Do you use a 48-72 hr night deodorant too? I have a problem with stress sweat. Like any time I get slightly anxious at work I would get stress-sweat with is smelly. I started using the "clinical" deodorants you can buy at any drug store and it's worked 100%. Apply at night before bed, then use your normal deodorant in the AM. No sweat, no stank.

You will need to switch up your clinical deodorant every other month or so, so I have 2 that I rotate (I like the certain-dri roll-on and the dove creamy solid clinical).

I have very bad stress/anxiety sweat and sweat a lot in general, too.
I have found that polyester and many synthetics are simply unwearable without pads/an undershirt. I've tried oxi, dish soap, vodka, vinegar, and like nine different types of detergent, and nothing can get the smell of my sweat out certain fabrics. If it smells okay dry, it will immediately stink again when it gets damp.

Personally this issue is way worse for me in my day-to-day and professional wear than lolita, so I've learned to deal with it. I use prescription strength, unscented antiperspirant and wear either pads or undershirts with a lot of tops. I also use little cleansing wipes to refresh myself every couple of hours if I'm sweating a lot.

This is actually a really good point and something I've been wondering recently. I've come back to lolita after a long way away this year, and I'm very happy in it, but I think that without my comm I would have given up again already. I think being strict with your own clothes doesn't necessarily take the fun out of it, but being very close - minded within the community can definitely hurt enjoyment, as can having very inaccessible communities and no active publications/big shared forums beyond cgl. I don't mean we should accept every ita in a F21 dress, but we could stand to make good communities easier to find and be more open-minded when more experienced lolitas experiment with different things.

To be real, those threads were always a little bit of a Catch-22. Quite frequently you'd have some anon coming in saying "why didn't you just search Lacemarket to check the prices/Use image search with the Japanese names". Fellow sweaty anon here. If we're talking about protecting the blouse, you need to wear something that covers the underarm area, so tank tops won't cut it. Get a low cut, skin-toned undershirt made of some kind of sweat-wicking material (Uniqlo makes them, but you can check the basic athletic wear brands). If it's the right shade, it won't really be visible unless the blouse is extra sheer.

Maybe it's just me but I have a large wardrobe with not a single skirt so I have literally zero use for a corset like that. I love the details brands put into their bodices other than Innocent World, and even they used to be better years ago. Whereas Moitie, AATP, and VM bodices are so detailed and perfect, it would be a shame to cover them up

I like the velvet top but the skirt fabric looks like shit compared to the mossbadger fabric. Too shiny and the gathering looks bad. The black ribbon at the bottom also looks bad. All in all, it looks cheap
