imo the only people who attach a stigma to /cgl/ fit into two categories: they either think /cgl/ is full of no-good bullies, or they think it's shameful to admit to going on /cgl/ because of the principle of anonymity (e.g. those who think it's "cringey" to mention /cgl/ irl). i think both camps are silly and there's not a stigma among those who don't have sticks up their asses.

I think there is, but it depends on the comm. In my comm most socially adjusted girls aren't shamed for saying they browse here for informative discussions etc.; it's a whole different story when it comes to the girls that tend to start shit though, and for good reason. If they start shit right on the comm page, shitposting/vendetta posting anonymously isn't beyond them, so if they do browse here they keep a low profile about it.

What do you length do you gulls think is too short for a skirt? Old school skirts were a little shorter than a lot of modern skirts are, but what do you think is too short?
Basically I was looking at a cute BPN skirt and it looked very lolita friendly, but when I looked at the length it was only 44 cm. So now I'm debating this. That length is equivalent to some AP miniskirts, which already have debate around them.

Too short depends on the height of the person. Anything mid to 3/4 to the knee is iffy. 3/4+ is okay, knee length is best. AP and very sweet stuff can get away with the shorter side.

I think gothic can get away with short skirts much better than sweet can. I think there's a pretty wide difference in opinion on what length is okay and what isn't, personally I really like "too short" skirts provided it goes with the coord and the person doesn't have gross legs.

Actually, some of AP's miniskirts are meant to be worn around the hips, not the waist. So they did still cover a fair amount of leg. It's when less skinny girls try to fit into the miniskirts, they end up wearing the skirts around their waists because it won't actually fit their hips, and then the skirt ends up being too short.

I think the final result depends highly on your height, your weight/bodytype, and your coord.
- if you're short, a short skirt still covers quite a lot of leg.
- If you have skinny legs, then it doesn't quite look so lewd when you show a lot of thigh
- If you're neither of the above then I suggest opaque tights, people often don't realise a skirt is short when they don't see a lot of skin showing.

I think slightly shorter skirts are actually quite flattering -- mid thigh skirts are usually unflattering on most girls. I wouldn't go shorter than mid-thigh, though, at that point it starts to look not like lolita.

Probably goes without saying, I wouldn't try for the zettairyouki gap unless you're smol, skinny and somewhat youthful, it can end up looking fetishy in a bad way.

My comm can be a bit weird about this. Practically everyone lurks here and I regularly recognize comm members posting in the mail thread or feels thread and our comm is often mentioned in the comm thread. Many people will also bring up cgl at meet ups. However there are a lot of obnoxious perma ita’s who, on the one hand also clearly lurk here, but on the other hand will constantly complain about how cgl is a horrible evil hivemine and how it’s full of disgusting losers with no life who hate and stalk them mercilessly for no reason etc., usually just after someone criticizes a coord of theirs that was posted publicly. We do have a bunch of annoying crossboarders but if someone says they don’t like your coord, it’s probably another lolita. And they’re probably not monstrously ugly and evil either, and maybe your coord was actually kind of bad? Nope, inconceivable. In those instances, cgl is a monolith of all that’s wrong with the world and they are the poor little ingenue who can’t help but lurk here every day for some innocent reason. But if cgl is going after someone they don’t like then suddenly the monolith dissipates and cgl is again a group of smart, well-dressed lolitas who are just telling hard truths. Somehow both of these incarnations can exist in the same conversation without any cognitive dissonance.

It really depends which overall look you're looking for. A mid-thigh skirt willl be on point for a summer casual coord, but will be completely out of place in an elegant classic coord.
Short skirts were worn by children in the 50's-60's (well according to fashion plates at least) because they weren't considered sexy, then they wore longer skirts with puberty, when they started to develop a woman body.
Like other anons point out, they will work for you if you have skinny thights because they don't look "womanly" compared to voluptuous thighs. It will work with an overall child-like, fresh and innocent look tou can get in sweet.

I guess it also work in gothic, because it gives off a darker, ero vibe. But again, i'm a sweet lolita, so correct me if i'm wrong.

It's not hard for me to understand. Lolita might have more followers now than ever, but a lot of the money has shifted to Chinese indie brands. Most of the girls in my comm spend way more on new taobao shit than new brand, or will even make snide comments like, "oh, well with the money you spent on that one dress, I could have bought 4!!"

Chinese lolitas are fucking cheap and only care about sweet status symbols, so as long as it "looks classic" they don't care and buy from taobao.
