getting that fucking bodice right stylistically and in proportion to your boobs.

Years ago I figured out that people making it need to make the dress right THEN make a bodice piece that can go over the bodice of the dress by tacking it down. That way if you make a mistake or find out the stuff you are using just isn't working you don't have to start again on a new dress. You can just cut a new bodice and try again. The overlay can be hidden by the trims and pearls your use.

Advanced makers can hide a corset in the first layer of the dress to keep it up without straps and then make the outer layers the proper shape to hide the corset.

I mean, from a sewing standpoint that's not how I'd do it because you need the scalloped edge up top to be sewn right from the get go to tack the pieces to.

Realistically, I'd just figure my measurements, how many circles Serenity's dress has in canon, and then figure out what diameter each circle must have to have that many circles across over bust. I could go to the trouble to make a mock up, but really i'd probably just pin the disks to the lining to test it before finishing the garment.

Any advice on getting a good Usagi wig? I'm going to a con in two weeks and my friend (her first con) wants all of us to dress up. Not full-cosplay, but 'characters in casual-wear' sort of thing. I've been looking around and I'm seeing wigs where the buns are detachable and I'm seeing ones that are all sorts of different color blonde. Should I get a 'pre-styled' wig? Or would I be better off getting a really long blonde wig and styling it myself? Any help is extremely appreciated!

Yeah, wow. Caking on make up does not help assuage the effects of time, damn. Do a Queen Serenity or Neo Queen Serenity or even Sailor Cosmos, but seven pounds of foundation and a MAC stores worth of eyeliner isn't helping that face pass for anything under 27. The frothing cup of crazy really doesn't help.

Most Sailor Moon cosplayers seem fine, but it's like every 15 years there's a new loony toon out to top the last loony toon in terms of sheer batshit craziness. And it's always Usagi they latch on to, too.

Trying to hide her age by pounding on the make up.

Look, you can't de-age yourself with make up. I'm in my late twenties doing a costume of an actress in her early twenties.

Other than taking care of your skin, there's little things you can do to *soften* your age like using light brown eyeliner instead of black or going lighter on your brows as opposed to dark, but simply putting your foundation on with a spatula is just going to age your face upwards. Don't do it.

When it comes to skincare, remember: prevention is easier than getting rid of the issues after they're there.

If you have some fine lines that retin a cant touch, don't go to one of those "beauty spas" or "medical spa" things in strip malls. If you're developing fine lines and Retin A and Vitamin C haven't helped, find a good dermatologist and have a consultation. You don't want to go to Larrys Discount Botox and have half a gallon of botulism injected into your face like this unfortunate creature.

Skincare will never work if you treat it as a every six months get an injection kind of thing. If you put yourself into an e-z bake oven and then inject yourself with Botox and make up like this chick, the only person you'll be fooling is yourself.

Take care of yoselves, gulls. You'll be grateful when you hit this chicks age.

A bright nude lip and black eyeliner aren't minimal make up. Minimal make up also means hues that aren't going to pop out at you like a harsh pure black and a nude pink three shades lighter than you are.

Minimal make up for someone of her age and skin tone would be a softer nude pink lip (not one that is bubblegum pink and far too light for her, I'd say maybe more of a coral pink?) brown eyeliner and light brown if not dark blonde eyebrows.

I feel like Serenity/NQS would have the long, willow-y features of someone tall.

Usagi is drawn short, but with long, graceful features. So you could have the right height but look a bit stumpy (even at 105lbs, short is short,) or you could be a little tall for Usagi, but have the same lithe features as her. It's either a lose/lose or win/win depending on how you look at it!

I thought the same thing after seeing it on Clare Danes, but I don't think I could justify $500 a yard. You'd either have to sacrifice fullness or work really slowly, like buying the fabric one year then waiting anothe year to complete it.

I wonder...

I wonder if you could actually use that fabric but *under* the pleated chiffon? You could still get a full skirt and pleated fabric, but also get that nice diffused glow. Hmm...

Queenie is lying like a madwoman and is trying to place blame on others instead of fully admitting she was at fault. She took on 19 commissions and did not order supplies in a timely manner and did not get started on working on several of them until 3-4 months in. She is lazy. For the fabric of the skirt, it's far more cost-effective to get the chiffon in bulk. You can get 25 yard bolts of white chiffon off amazon or fabricwholesaledirect (They doubled the price recently, unfortunately, but it's still cheaper than getting individual yards). If you're doing double circle skirts for the layers, each layer is about 9-10 yards of chiffon. I'd also recommend doing a fishing line hem to give the dress more body and volume.

There are a variety of ways to embellish the bodice, but if you're not committed to doing something like tambour beading (the best result imo) then flatback pearls will give a cleaner looking result than normal pearl beading. Use glue syringes so you don't have a mess on your fabric.

I've seen some people buy pre-embellished circles and just attach those to the bodice, if you want the super easy route.

Who cares if they are fat! This costume looks great on them from the neck down! It is well made and lovely and they actually look skinnier in this. Now if only she actually had a good wig and better makeup.

And btw this costume will make people with big boobs look fatter. I just had a kid so I have some weight to loose and it is going to take time to loose it, but before I got pregnant I was skinny and had a large chest. I had been that way since early high school, When I was 5'8" and weighed 145 pounds. Something like this would make me look fat when I was bony.

I gotta agree. She put all that effort into a gorgeous costume only to look terrible in it. I can't wrap my head around it. Obviously she's willing to put in the work into her costume, why not put the time to also work on looking good? There's a reason people don't want fat models, they tend to detract from the clothes and make them look bad.

Also, fat chicks: empire waists are not your friend. No one is thinking 'wow she's got big tits,' they are thinking, 'wow she looks like a blimp.'

The point was that her bust is fairly large relative to her waist unless you've got crazy fake mega tits

Shut up you insecure piece of shit. It would look fine if she just rearranged something to take out the boob roll.

Jesus Christ I shouldn't have brought up my bust. Some shitlords just can't help but turn anything in fat hate. For the record I've got a 40" bust and 29" waist and by the way I'm 5' 11" just in case you're going to tell me that's fat too.

I'm not sure if it's her in it but the costumes are made by Usako, that one chick that cosplays everyone, even minor characters in Sailor Moon

Sorry you got shitty responses anon. I'm pretty busty too (37" bust and 23" waist), and I got the dress to stay up and look good by creating a full length corset-back bodice and just attatching the skirt in the correct place outside of it. The corset-style will compress your boobs quite a bit in addition to providing support to the weight of the skirt. Don't gather any of the skirt except the outside layer so there's less bulk under your boob.

You sure it's the same, anon? Bodice looks different.

Either way, I'd never heard of Usako before but her gallery is absolutely gorgeous! I love staged shoots so much.

And never thought I'd see a Sailor Lethe cosplay!

It's not the same dress. I think she makes commissions for others. So it was one of the dresses she has made.

I'm so glad you have new content to look at. She has a LOT of stuff. Even the older things are pretty good.

She also staged an in costume piano recital. I couldn't find vid of that, but here is a different one.

I'm trying to convince a few of my friends to join me for their first con, but since they don't sew, I've been trying to look around for pre-made Sailor Scout suits. Any recommendations based off of personal experience?

This is how I planned on doing mine... Though I was going to gather all the layers at the waist. But I did plan to taper it in.

I did 2 double circle skirts of chiffon and one crepe satin underlayer. the doubling will give you the volume you need at the bottom without the bulk at the top, and then expanding the waist+ gathering for the top layer will give you the same look as her dress. The layers get thick really fast with multiple layers of gathering, otherwise.

Wow, great hair. Anyone knows where I could find a wig of similar length, if not longer?
