Hey anon I live in the area, I'll give you a quick rundown.

Bath is a really quiet city, feels very old, quaint and picturesque, so not much specifically in the way of entertainment for nerds. Unless you're into history and architecture specifically though, then it's just lovely to have a walk around.

Bristol is one of the best cities for nerds imo though, we have a board game cafe called Chance and Counters, which lets you either bring in tabletop games to play or rent them out to play.

There's a forbidden planet and a couple of other indie comic shops dotted about the city, if you're into indie shops in general give Gloucester Road (Protip in case you're American, this is gloss-ter road like wooster sauce) a look.

There's a pub called Bag o' Nails which is famous as a "Cat pub" - think cat cafe.

There's locations in the uni that were used for filming Sherlock if you're into that.

There's the science museum and aquarium as well.

and ofc all the cool graffiti and banksy's around the city.

I can be a bit more detailed/specific if you've got specific hobbies or interests in mind though.

There's a small independent comic shop in Bath called American Dreams. Other than that nothing really comic/cosplay related in Bath, just nice scenery and architecture. If you like Tolkien there are a few places not far from Bath that he based some locations in his books on.

Well thank you for the warning. Luckily I am used to a lot of shit and ugly people can be fun and very nice people as well so thats no problem. I am only visiting for a few days and I'd thought it would be fun to hang out with natives as it is beneficial to my skills as well as it would be fun to talk about our hobbies. Im only there next week and I have little free time though. Mostly tuesday and wednesday evening in bath and thursday in the afternoon.. our program is packed with tours etc..

Alex was a pretty popular figure within AL as far as I can tell, so it's not like all the AL higher ups would cover for Mike. Iirc several other senior staff members quit right after Alex because of the allegations.

It's the evidence Alex has and the nature of the accusations (sexual assault/paedophilia) that puts the burden of proof on MT.

(Basically, the police must investigate all claims if rape/paedophilia and the suspect is treated as guilty until proven innocent. This partly due to certain presenters turning out to be paedophiles, and police not acting on reports of that at the time)

In a civil case, which would be what Mike would have to bring forward against Alex and the girls who have given evidence (slander/libel/defamation), burden of proof is on the plaintiff, as the have to prove to the trier (judge or jury) that they are entitled to the relief or reparations they seek.

So, if Mike does intend to take Alex to court, although from speaking to Alex it seems he's already in the process of it since a letter came through about it, Mike has to prove that Alex and the girls are lying. Which probably won't go well for Towers.

So it's either a scare tactic on Mike's part, probably hoping that everything will go away if he threatens him, or Mike's an idiot with no lawyer and no concept of the law and civil cases. Lawsuits are big and scary and expensive, but Alex, if he can't afford a lawyer, gets one from the state. Mike would have to pay for his own. And I can imagine any lawyer with half a brain would look at the fact there is still an ongoing investigation into the issues surrounding Mike, and not want to take the case on, because at this point it's beyond unlikely he'd win. Maybe after the investigation is over, and if he's found not guilty

Also I'm just dropping in and don't know a lot of the context of this whole thing, but it sounds like people are worried about that group taking advantage of underage girls or something? Seriously, report it to the police. It's easy to do and you can literally just be like "look idk for sure what's happening (if anything), but there's this _____ that seems a bit suspect, here ya go" and it will be looked into. Don't assume that someone else will have reported it, people get away with this behaviour because of that kind of thinking

It was mentioned in the previous thread, it has been reported to the police, multiple girls have come forward to provide statements and evidence of Towers grooming and underage relations with them. Last I heard it went from a local police station, to higher up in the system, which I assume means it is being taken very seriously.

I went- definitely wouldn't say it was shit, it still had a great atmosphere as usual, but it wasn't as awesome as 2015. Still plenty to do compared to other small cons (silly craft area, pretty great food court, decent artists/dealers area, free photography, maid cafe) but I was really feeling the absence of last majikkon's Lolita room and games areas. It's a shame since 2015 was the best con of its size I've been to, though this year's was still good compared to similar cons.

The venue was poor compared. It was one big sports hall, same size as previous run, but most of the con was in that.
Games and maids were in little rooms, which you had to walk about an open leisure center to get to. There was karate club in the room across from the maids, general public walking around going to the gym ect making snarky comments and laughing at nerds.
I liked the uni, it had the one big hall then the other floors had other things going on, it was nice. You could chill out and play games in on the top floor with all the sofas, the ground floor with all the food and more seating and then the big hall. I know it was still open to students to used the gym but they didn't make it awkward like this year.
I know they had funding issues this year, so that might be why they had change but they need to go back to weeby roots.

I miss the loli lounge with the candy floss machine.

Anyone still without the loop with Towers drama, I know a mediator and Alex personally, as well as girls involved. Personally I'm fuckin disgusted that allegations were thrown to only be dismissed as a way of 'harming a reputation of a public figure' as seen from the email from Tower's solicitor or whatever. Through my experience, if you don't push the allegation hard enough, you won't go through court like I am now.

Sadly enough however, whatever proof there is, some girls were also making false allegations which jeopardised the process, so to speak. It's also easier online to fabricate and falsify evidence, which is also taken into account. But, without fire, nobody was going to get burned. As seen, forcing what evidence of the TowersGate onto social media proved that word travels fast, and to which has ruined several upcoming anime events in terms of their tickets, guesting, etc., which is seen from, I think it was Glasgow Anime and Gaming Con(?)'s cancellation.

Alcon is definitely going down the shitter. LAGC is soon to follow, and I'm expecting a sharp downfall from there on. Don't count me on it, but I don't think this is the end of the drama, either.

Yeah the problem you have with that is it's not just Paedo Towers who does the word a lot of the hard work at these events are done by other people to just cancel the events look more unprofessional to dealers and sponsors over what is currently an accusation. If/When something comes from it that's more substantial that's when action has to be taken.

Until then regardless of your views events aren't just going to be cancelled and which I personally get but I suppose not everyone's going to be as understanding

Great, what other events can I go to aside form MCM?

What's your opinion of hyper japan? the bus there is 5 hours and only costs me 6 quid, plus I can get a hostel near the venue for like 25 quid a night I think which seems fair.

I need some medium/largish cons to attend outside of MCM, I'm going to AL manchester anyway since its 15 mins away, plus jap food.
