8989680 No.8989680 [Reply] [Original]

Opening image is from Kera issue 45, circa June 2002, and features Metamorphose.

Old Thread (Highlights from Kera 68, 46, 32 / 80s lolita with Atsuki Onishi '85 & Olive )
>> 8986127

Bringing along these questions from a few threads ago:
>Having any recent purchases?
>What's your oldest item?
>What kind if coords are you planning?
>Who's your old school inspiration/idol?

>What is it that draws you to old school?
>Do you have a specific favorite old school coord? If so, what is it you like so much about it?
>Do you have an old school "crown jewel" of your wardrobe? If so, why that piece?
>I feel old school has been making a comeback. What do you think?

I was thinking the same. As well as some remarks on here regarding some of the girls weight, face, etc that would most definitely be made.

That's sad because because I find most of these girls in these pics pretty in their own way. I love the way they look unique and how the make up is so simple. The beauty is in the viewers eyes after all.

>> No.8990126

>>8990064
>>8990067

You don't really know that these remarks weren't made just because the girls were in a magazine, though. I remember Fruits magazine editor saying they strictly don't shoot lolitas because guys said they were frumpy and ugly, and (seperately), someone on egl asked if anyone knew what happened to a Japanese classic lolita, who shut down her blog because people were leaving mean comments about her looks and outfits, and when she moved to another blog the haters found that too, so she shut down all her blogs. So some bitching definitely went down somewhere, just not in the magazine.

Three theories:
> 1. They are all genuinely teenagers and they're just ugly/awkwardly posed/old-looking
> 2. They're in their thirties or later and lying about their age to hide the shame of still being into alt fashion when they should be a responsible worker by now.
> 3. They're in their thirties or later and lying about their age out of an ageplay fetish.

I saw an old magazine scan with those actual Baby socks in it at 3am a few weeks ago, then lost the page and couldn't find it again. They're not as new as people think.

Mm, I sometimes wonder if online hostility is why so few Japanese lolitas post online.

>> No.8990216

>>8990193
Probably. It's probably not just lolita either. With a society where conformity is a virtue, wearing any outlandish fashion is a form of rebellion. Why bother posting and exposing it to more people who will refuse to understand it?

>> No.8990219

>>8990216
Plus if they're blogs/photos/whatever are found it could cost them their jobs, and shame their families. Japanese people in general keep pretty low profile on the net.

>> No.8990226

>>8990219
But that doesn't seem to be the case as much anymore though. There are tons of Lolitas from Japan who now post showing their face, even realisticsweet posted their face eventually.

>> No.8990236

>>8990226
That's true, things are changing and loosening up a bit, which I think is great. It probably also helps that there have been a few moral panics since visual kei, and neither Lolita nor vkei look like they used to. But I'd still argue for a general, society wide trend of keeping a low profile online for fear of social repercussions, which naturally impacts the alternative fashion scene online.

Also some magazines hating lolita is strange to me. It feels like even now, lolitas stick to their own magazines and other styles feel they don't blend well with lolita's.

You didn't know? It was well-known that the editor of FRUiTS thought lolita was boring and uncreative, although I hadn't heard that their no-lolita policy was also motivated by male readers disliking it.

>> No.8990317

No, I always knew about the FRUiTS thing. I think that honestly contributed to lolitas being more in their own circle. It's strange how much men apparently disliked it though.

Tbh I can see why men wouldn't like it. It's not like it's a very attractive or sexy style after all. Frankly, what I find it more strange how much the male readers opinions on a style directed towards women were taken into account. I guess FRUiTS has a lot more male readers than I thought...

Fruits is way more unisex then Kera inside. Very little makeup related content (1 or 2 pages per 10 issues-ish?), lots of the adverts are very male-gaze (I'm looking at a naked female torso from behind in one right now, but I think it's against the rules to post that?)

Baby ads are notably feminine, but they aren't in every issue.

Non-photo content (fan mail, interviews) are very no frills layout.

The two phaidon books are a higher percent female fashion than the actual magazine because it's ore interesting, I think?
