I hate the exact shades needing to be matched. Most of the time the brands themselves can't so it unless it's a series. Sometimes one dress can have multiple shades of the same color.


My pet peeve is that lately brands will reuse a cut too much only changing the print. Sometimes its nice, but I see what you're doing AP. Cutting down time on design, to release new prints faster. Also too much AP release in general. Can never have all those dresses...

It always bugs me when people try to sell worn shoes for the price they got it for. Especially if it's Bodyline or Antaina shoes. Even if its worn only once, shoes lose value as soon as you walk in them, unlike dresses or accessories.

There's a difference between being criticized and being savaged on things like body shape, facial features, etc.

People also don't give great critique. Its one thing to say, "This sucks. Never cosplay again." Its another to say, "The construction is flawed, the materials aren't right, the paint job is messy." One thing can make you improve. The other just makes you feel bad about yourself.

I hate the costumey trends in lolita lately and I am about 95% sure they are made popular by the cosplayers. Staffs, veils, overdone wigs... OTT classic just looks like girls playing princess. At least OTT sweet looked like a weird fashion instead of a costume.

Holy shit, this. With OTT sweet, you could look at a group of girls, and even if their coords were wildly different, you could still see the theme of the fashion. These new OTT classic trends, though, seem to vary so wildly that if you made a collage, you wouldn't even be able to see the lolita in it. Not to say that OTT sweet all looked like clones (although that was a thing), but OTT classic looks more like lolita inspired princess costumes instead of the other way around.

Also, OTTS was still wearable, even with a toybox and cotton candy puffs on your head. With OTTC's floor length veils and staffs, we're just a few inches away from having your skirt literally trailing behind you being on trend.

Lolita and former cosplayer here.

The difference is that while women can be catty and rotten toward each other. But most males here will be nasty to anything with a vagoo that doesn't resemble their 2d wifu. It's especially disgusting in a more anon environment.

I'm more likely to end up in an ugly lolita thread with people commenting "hey she's actually cute, vandetta", or in another thread, "her nose is too masculine but her at least her coord is cute.". Whereas if I were to get back into cosplay, I'd have dozens of man children tearing me down for not looking like anime.

Plus, there's such a strict adherence to looking like the fucking character these days, to the point where it's nearly an expectation. It wasn't that way when I started way back in the day. At least with lolita, if you're fugly, but coord well, and are generally positive and helpful, most people will be pretty chill most of the time.

by my count, there are at least 36 cosplay-specific threads currently active.

this isn't even counting the ones with overlap, like the circle lenses, wigs, and convention threads. the convention threads (from specific cons to roommate and panel threads) are definitely more cosplay-oriented than lolita-oriented, and i would count them if i wanted to put more effort into it.

by contrast, there are about 37 cosplay-exclusive threads (threads that do not and cannot have any overlap with cosplay). 36 vs 37, with the rest of the threads being open to either jfash or cosplay is about normal for the board. (many of the shared threads are weeb-specific, like the ita bag thread, which appeal to both jfash and cosplay folks.)

There's a difference between say, mixing a bright cherry red with wine or like a brick red. Salmon, with baby pink and hot pink. When it's just a slight variation of a similar color with the same undertones "the pinks don't match!" it's a little crazy.

Half the time when people bitch about it to this degree, I wonder if they've ever tried to buy any lolita items online at all. Sometimes items released in the same series don't even match.

not going to defend the image but desu, I'm just sort of confused about its continued circulation . Personally, I think it looks dumb and dated but for context: I drew cgl-tan around the height of the chess chocolate craze (shoddy semblance to the bustier jsk, I know) and the early cancerous board-tan dances (when /sp/x/cgl/ was otp and no one had a clear idea how far between shitty cosplayer and weeby ita cgl-tan's identity would be. It was also a reaction image directed at an influx of /sp/ posters). It was pretty terribly composed to start with but I can probably dig up the SAI file off my old laptop for the edit anon if they really want it
