RuffleCon is in one week.

>Haenuli herself will be there
>Triple Fortune bringing more fancy shit to put on your head than last year
>VooodooDolly bringing other fancy shit
>As They Sew in France bringing Victorian reproductions to drool over
>Motherfucking RASPUTINA CONCERT
>Motherfucking BRILLIANT KINGDOM CONCERT
>facial hair contest for fellas who felt left out last year
>buncha indie designers
>consignment room for the shit you couldn't offload on LaceMarket
>SIMPLICITY GIVING AWAY A COMPUTERIZER BROTHER SEWING MACHINE for the handmade contest
>game room for all your Cards Against Humanity or DS Street Pass needs
>chosen charity is RAINN
>some Japanese scholar will present intellectual research on Japanese street fash
>lots of lolita programming, some steampunk shit, and scattered other altfash junk
>fancy dress masquerade with formal dance classes beforehand

My masquerade game won't be too strong because I don't wear OTT and didn't know my friends wanted to go until last minute.
I have to wash and restyle my wig for the con. I just hope people won't look down on me for wearing the same wig, it's just that there's no other color and style that I think matches and is as flattering that I've found so far. Maybe one day I can do cutesy updo buns just to switch it up.

Automatic Honey donating to the silent auction. I now have to look up what a silent auction is because I want the cat pin.

>> No.8634304

>>8634267
A silent auction goes like this:

All the items are on a table somewhere with attendants keeping an eye on them.

Every item has a bid sheet, you write down what you bid and walk away (or stalk from the shadows.)

Other people can come and outbid you by writing a higher bid on the sheet.

At the end of the bidding period, the highest bid wins. You go to the person in charge and pay them, they hand you the item.

In this way, they can have multiple auctions running at the same time, and the auctions can run over a few days rather than a single fixed period of time, one right after the other.

Im disappointed in the lack of japanese brands at this convention apart from triple fortune. I looked over all the panels and the same handful of people are running most of them and at this point the only interesting thing to do seems like the vip tea party or shopping and hanging out with friends but that doesnt seem like its worth $100 for 3 days.
If they had more brand presence and better guests I would definitely consider it worth it but for what it is I cant believe so many people are actually going. I dont know ill probably go for a day anyway.

>the lack of japanese brands at this convention apart from triple fortune
KOKOkim is Japanese (but probably not what you meant by "brand"). It's only their second year, so hopefully with support and feedback they can bring over bigger lolita brands. Tokyo Rebel is so close, I don't know why they don't partner with them they way they did with Harajuku Hearts.

As for panels, lolitas are not exactly known for creating content. Modern lolita culture is consumerist rather than creative, so it is unsurprising that few lolitas stepped up while the steampunks (a fashion run on DIY spirit) got a million panels.

Gulls, I need some advice - I have one OTT coord, and three less OTT / what I would consider "normal lolita" coord. The OTT coord involves a prop. I'm not sure if I should wear it to the Masquerade or to the tea party. It doesn't necessarily fit the Tea Party's theme and doesn't use any designers.

Also, my prop has LED lights on it so I thought it would look best at the masquerade, but I want it to be properly "showcased" so to speak because I am very proud of it. Advice, please?

It's not huge. I'd estimate it's about 4 feet tall and very thin. It won't be difficult to be carrying, won't be hitting people either.

The lights can be turned off and are not very bright. The reason I mention them is because the Masquerade's environment will likely be darker than the tea party's, which was why I included them in the prop - because I was planning to wear it to the masquerade, but now I am unsure.

Total agreement here. I also think that length of wig makes girls look a little blob-y when paired with dresses that are cut like Dream Marine.

Really looking forward to more photos getting posted from the con. Itas are fun but I'd love to see some of the more impressive coords too.

Doesn't anyone know to screw off the bottle's lid, put some cellophane over the top, and then screw the lid back on?

Also, make sure you heavily wash your bottle before hand; they keep a surprising amount of ew from usage.

Apparently you'll be able to input your own info online next year before the con, which should clear up a lot of the problems with intake. (instead of them typing stuff up while you wait, they'll just be confirming your items when you drop them off, which should go faster).

I hope they have a separate line next year for power users or limit how much any one person can bring. Some people were dropping off 50+ items and it was pretty awful if you were stuck behind them. I thought the prices overall were not great, especially a ton of lucky pack stuff that was priced at almost retail.

I'm guessing at this point, any of the major Japanese brands have minimum sales guarantees and/or associated costs that make them too pricey for a smaller con to invite. Personally, I'd rather see some cool indie J-brands like Sheglit or Vierge Vampur than the bigger brands that appear at mainstream cons.

I spoke with the As they Sew in France designers and they are really friendly and excited about their new inspiration so this is definitely good advice.

in fact i'd say most of the "professionals" I met at rufflecon were incredibly approachable. The woman with the corsets (Ties that bind?) was really fun to talk to - she joked that next year she wants to do a "divorce" line versus the "wedding" line she did this year.

>>8652845
I heard that Simplicity was astounded by the handmade contest, that's one of the reasons they took so long to vote, they weren't used to seeing that level of skill and effort. i'm personally hopeful that they are going to take a lot of inspiration from what they saw and maybe even hook up with some of the seamstresses that were at RuffleCon to build up their historic/alternative lines of patterns that they have been working on the past couple years.

can you imagine if a major brand like that gets influenced to creating better product just because of one little convention?

I'm going to have to agree with other anons saying this wasn't a convention for the e-unpopular or non-OTT classics.
This convention for me was one giant ball of awkward with little bits of good moments scattered in that I'm not sure if it balances out to make it worth going next year.
I'd even venture to say this convention isn't worth attending unless you have a VIP ticket, know lots of people preemptively, and have a suite on the 9th and 10th floors of the hotel (free food and drink every night). People were unsociable for a number of reasons.

The events were overall good, for a convention in its second year. But really, there were problems everywhere that are the growing pains of a new con. There are kinks that probably won't get worked out for years, so you have to ask yourself if it's worth it.

The masquerade, for example, was a huge letdown. No DJ, no refreshments, no organization, and no nice music. People got dressed up just to stand around in isolated groups like some awkward school dance.

The high tea service was nice comparably to last year. However, they let in everyone late and pushed people out very quickly as a result. Some of the waitstaff seemed more than...uninspired as well. The raffle seemed a tad rigged (mostly VIPs who won..), but what was cool was 3F coming around each table and getting a picture with each person. Also there were A LOT of empty seats since they made tickets non-transferable and some people could not make it to the con.

The fashion show was good, just some amateur mistakes by a couple of the speakers like mispronouncing words, having awkward timing, and mixing up dresses. Also they should really keep 2+ hour events like this as the 'closing' event of the night. Instead of shoehorning them on top of other goings-on that make it hard for both models and attendees.

TL;DR it would take good designer guests and a VIP ticket to pull me back here again.

i am neither of those things (gothic with zero online presence, not even CoF) and i made a few friends and had a good time. however, i did not go to any of the main events except the Rasputina concert and the burlesque show. my best times were in panel rooms, especially the game room.

Seconding this, I am not efamous and I wear mostly sweet lolita, and I had a good time. I came with some friends from my local comm and spend a lot of time hanging out with them, which helped. We took some time off and left the con to eat at a local restaurant, and then go drunk at the hotel bar on Saturday night. I also had fun shopping by myself and trying stuff on at the consignment shop. Even though the prices there were high for most of the stuff I appreciated being able to try stuff on in person so that I know how it fits in case I ever decide to buy it off the internet. I had the most fun at the burlesque show and karaoke.
