I really want to cosplay touhou but literally every character has been done and I don't want to have to compete with how amazing the existing ones are. Pic related is about how bad I am at costumes, at least her wig looks good. I suck at wigs, my hair is really long and hard to hide

I think many people might have this feeling. There is a Russian Flandre cosplayer who pulled this off way better, yet you have to remember cosplay is for your own fun as well. Cosplay has been getting so competetive over the years, but if you're having a good time it doesn't have to be perfect in my opinion.

I think Touhou is one of the least competitive fandoms in terms of cosplay, as far as I've found. I used to cosplay Marisa around 2010-11 and the fanbase was, by and large, very kind. Have faith. If you're concerned about your size, I've honestly found that Touhou costumes can be tailored to be fairly flattering. Most of them have long skirts, and look better with a petticoat under them. A poofier skirt will make your waist look smaller. I had my Marisa skirt fall to just above the knee with a petticoat underneath, so although I got one "SKIRT TOO SHORT" comment online, it was worth it for a more flattering length (right at the knee/just below the knee can make you look stumpy depending on how you're built). Try to make your Sakuya top fairly fitted, too.

The Touhou fandom is seriously the nicest cosplay community I know of. Seriously, you can look like shit in your cosplay, and people will still compliment you because they are just happy to see other Touhou fans.

I've cosplayed from Touhou twice now, and I even did cosplay a fanart version of Patchouli, and yet people recognized me and complimented me on my cosplay!
