Well it's not the kita people, hilton threatened to pull the insurance which would shut the event down. That much attention basically draws the attention of the police/booze license people since it was effectively people drinking their own supply not the overpriced bar. That is serious shit to an events venue (and covered in almost every convention contract i've seen, if you risk the venues future revenue, they will shut ur butt down faster than you can apologise), If there's any serious incident (even one or two people needing medical help) you can almost bet it will be shut down/new venue will be needed next year.

If you're no in it for the cash it's very simple to run a consistent convention without fear of getting the taxman.

The constant switching of hands kita does is the exact opposite of that and it's one of the big reasons I completely avoid the event. It's a exploitative cashgrab dressed up as a convention the same way destiny was as a video game.

In the uk? Depend what you want. MCM (Mostly october( is always worth it if you have the time and money or don't live too far away. Mostly cause the whole atmosphere is the closest we'll get to the big american events.

Hyperjapan is always a safe bet though I've only been two or three times.

Not really a fan of any of the residential cons cause that seems to be a strangely incestuous group of organisers who haven't had an original idea and have inherited the events from people far more talented who got burned out.

I always go to sunnycon even though it's organisation is always a farce. Somehow it always remains one of my favourite events, hell this year 2/3 of the guests cancelled literally a day or two before and the one remaining guest they had (uncle kage) basically saved the con because he was fantastic (and in previous years their guests have always had at least one person who doesn't come to the uk much who is fantastic)

Alcon......Maybe. That one entirely depends on your tolerance to awful human beings while having a very solid friend group. It doesn't quite revel in it's bacchanalian subculture the way someone like Kita does even though drinking is a big part of it, and it still feels fan driven enough that it doesn't come across as cynical.

That's why I like sunnycon, as i just said, it always has one stand out guest who blows your average con guest lineup out of the water. Kage spent all weekend drinking chatting and making everyone he met laugh, and he was out of the furry fanzone so he wasn't as constantly mobbed as he would be at the typical event he goes to (and he's back next year which is a pretty good sign they learned how great he was). The year before they had a pretty similar deal with Quinton Flynn who basically flirted and chatted whenever he wasn't in a panel. Like, it's fairly localish to me so it's not a great expenditure but that kinda shit really kind of saves them from being your average medium sized weeb meet with a dealers area. Plus, the ways that event fucks up are kind of adorably stupid.

Honestly, for what it is, Alcon is a lot better than people seem to give it credit for. Obviously there's always going to be organiser issues, but it's kind of a good mix between a party con and an actual con for weebs. Kitacon was actually so, so much more fun than I expected from what I read here. If you moderately enjoy clubbing/like a dance it's absolutely brilliant because the party setup is actually really nice and professional so it's pretty much like going clubbing with m8s except the music's better (sometimes), you can BYOB and it's full of weebs so nobody cares if you dress like an idiot and dance with no shoes on. When people said 'party con' I was expecting some shitty awkward MCM afterparty tier shit, this was actually an excellent weekend, even as someone who wasn't cosplaying. 10/10, would attend again

Also, the reasonably priced street food in the Hilton was a bonus, I thought food was going to be an absolute bitch this weekend but £6 for a small curry isn't too bad.

For both Sat and Sun I had nice dinners at Frankie and Bennys at the airport which was still cheaper than the Hilton.

Overall, I had quite a bit of fun this Kitacon but I didn't really have any drama which I know ruined some peoples weekends. I went to a couple of panels/events and I was surprised that I really enjoyed the cosplay chess but apparently they had practiced for 2 hours and it showed. It wasn't all that cringe either. The yaoi panel was fucking awful and I'm still bitter about my panel being rejected for their crap. I won an awful t-shirt at least. The other thing I went to was the Name That Anime Tune game which was pretty fun to do with friends and pass the time. I didn't bother with the ceremonies because I honestly don't care about any of the kitacon family type stuff. I'm really glad we got tote bags though, I didn't bring a good small bag so that bag was pretty handy this weekend.

The not bringing your bag into the hall was annoying but at least the cloak room was free. I would've been more angry about it if I had to pay for it but to be honest it was easier dancing without a bag and I could put my heels in it.

I think there was quite a large amount of loserconning and at the end of the day I don't fault the staff for asking to check badges so much. I do have one complaint though about the screening room, a bunch of stuff was super delayed/not on time, some things were in dub and some were sub, they were suppose to play the second Tiger and Bunny film but I went to go to the room and it wasn't on but something else. They did this last time with the first Tiger & Bunny movie and cancelled that, I think someone just hates T&B at this point.

The dealers room as okay but the only merch I bought was the Snake candle from gametee and that shit smells amazing, highly recommend.

Ashram wasn't gophering. After he got asked not to volunteer to gopher, he somehow got to work on a stall in the dealers room. He wasn't there in an official capacity.
The street food was overpriced and not brilliant. I know it's the Hilton and they'll get money out of you any way they can but this was a pretty blatant money grab but that's not the Con's fault. The stalls are actually a new development that Hilton offers to Cons. The thing that pissed me off was they were supposed to be in the dining room, not the lobby. It meant the lobby and bar - usually a nice hang-out space (even with overpriced drinks) - was too busy and crowded at all hours.
The hardcore badge check was because of someone not only loser-conning it, but stealing people's badges, using them to get into panels and then handing them in as 'Lost'. Plus people were using 2014 badges as their backs are identical and breezing past newbie gophers.

I was kinda disappointed at the announcement/lecture delivered at the beginning of the cosplay masquerade on Saturday. I'm glad the result wasn't the souring of the relationship between the venue and Kitacon as an event though as this is easily the best venue of any UK con.

Have to say though, everything felt shorter than last year. Kita's Got Talent, opening, closing and the masquerade. Good or bad? I'm not sure.

Didn't get the best pictures during the masquerade for reasons but here's one anyway.

What I will say though, after the shitstorm that was AmeChibi - this genuinely restored my faith in UK events and the community.

For a con supporting a disability accessibility charity they didn't do too great on the parties, between the bag issue and the lighting. I heard someone had a seizure Sunday night which is why the lights got toned down so abruptly about half an hour before the end. I also saw either a gopher or one of the hotel staff set the St johns ambulance on that girl who always wears skimpy cosplays and a slipping wig and has something wrong with her. I over heard 'it's okay; she's not drunk', so that's obviously why but I'm not sure how they missed her all weekend. On the other hand, at least they were keeping an eye out for people.

I'm just hoping that they'll put a bit of thought into preventative measures before the next con so they don't have to throw up badly thought out rules in the middle of the con again. My wallet hopes they don't bring in a no outside drinks rule, but it would make sense to keep it in place and I'm pretty sure the Hilton would be behind it.

Except Kita doesn't give a shit about insurance. Remember at Amechibi they were asking for volunteer first aiders? Technically they shouldn't do that, as 'volunteer' first aiders aren't staff, and are therefore not covered by the event insurance.

Yeah, I noticed they had a very young kid, like 10yrs with their group. Fortunately, didn't see him let into the dealers room ( there was some hentai out) and he was well behaved.

None of my friends who ever met him has liked him, they all saw the shit he was doing to me and they still defended the harassment against him and his girlfriend. I can't recall the last time I've been as happy as I am right now and have been for the many months that they've been out of my life, so whatever man. He's beta as fuck and the only thing that he can talk about to make himself seem cool is uni drinking games and drugs. I'm pretty fucking happy to not associate with him anymore.

Again, I'm not proud of the shit I did, but I had kind of been pushed over the edge multiple times throughout that entire thing. I didn't go psycho on either of them until someone was nice enough to bring up all of the things that had been done and said behind my back and all of the lies that I had been told while it was going on.
We made peace fucking months ago so I have no idea why you feel the need to bring up old drama.
Can I stand the sight of either of them? Fuck no. They're the only people I've ever met that have ever managed to actually properly piss me off. I'd gladly apologise to the girlfriend but I'm not ever going to trust her or respect her again.
