I'm aware this is a delicate topic but what is your opinion about a tastefully fandom theme lolita outfit, especially for conventions?

I know the opinions about this are pretty controversal.
Personally I like, this is also what I'm looking for, theme outfits with stuff from your closet. Which are also subtle and not specifically made for it, like for a cosplay. I don't mind handmade accessories like brooches, sceptesr and such but I dislike selfmade prints which misses the aesthetics of lolita.

The spike in egyptomania definitely happened as a result of Tut's tomb being excavated, but before that there was still some fascination with Egypt as a mysterious foreign land with 2spoopy culture, traditions and magical powers. When Bram Stoker's Dracula was first published it was initially out-sold by another horror novel called The Beetle: A Mystery, in which an Egyptian priest/shaman/witch/demon/scarab/thing runs around London bothering fancy English people. I think it's hard to do non-Sailor Moon characters, sadly. Unless it's handmade. There's not much Sailor Lolita stuff that isn't blue or black.

I have no problem with either of these concepts if the outfit itself isn't totally ita. It's nice seeing people being creative and having fun with their clothes, and it is fun to reimagine a character while working within the confines of lolita. I think some people are too sensitive about their precious fashion potentially being seen as a costume.

I googled it and I think I found what you were talking about? Honestly, if you didn't say it was Sailor Moon I wouldn't have guessed. The odangos aren't quite right.

I think you need a much better wig for this and everything on the head should be scrapped except the maid headpiece. I'd either go entirely white for the wig (remember, it just has to be inspired) or do her exact hair color. The light blonde doesn't look good with the white on this coord. You really don't need pearls in the hair either and I think they need to go altogether since they look cheap.

The tights are cute (where did you get them?) and I think the overall outfit itself is good.

Also, get rid of the brooch altogether. It's really, really golden and it fits nothing in the coord. I know Usagi's brooch never matches her own outfits, but it doesn't work with lolita. If I were you, I'd remake it in silver or white or something in monotone or silver + navy if it was especially to for this coord.

It's really well made, though! Overall I like it. Just fix the wig and pearls on top and figure out a better color for the brooch or remove it altogether maybe.

Personally I don't like actual Disney princess coords where the goal is to look like "x princess". I like the Minnie Mouse and Disney duck ones a lot, though. For princesses I prefer something like a Cinderella themed JSK with Cinderella type accessories, but maybe not the same shoes, hair style, accent colors, etc. The exception I can think of is probably Alice because that is a very strong theme and Alice lolita is accepted at least somewhat in Japan, like animal ears are seen as very ita to most folks here but more OK in Japan.

To be honest the wig is a Miku model with that clip in tails and I just wrapped the hair around, which I saw on youtube. I bought it for a Serenity cosplay which never happend, maybe this explains the pearl clips too.

Why do any of you feel the need to drag all kinds of costumey stuff into the fashion instead of doing either one or the other.
Most look too lolified to be a good cosplay and too costume-like to be good lolita so it's a fail on both counts.

The vibe I'm getting from some people is that cosplay is not something they would pour energy and money into, especially since it's not as wearable as lolita dresses. For some people, lolita is just another way of expressing their love of the fandom, much the same way someone might make fanart, write fanfic, make cross stitch pictures, make gifs and so on.

For others, it seems more like a fun thing to do to base a coord around a theme, rather than a serious cosplay effort. If you can do a strawberry-themed outfit or a guro lolita outfit, why not try a pokemon-themed outfit? Some of the girls making up coords in this thread seem to be doing it as a challenge to see if they can make a themed lolita outfit that looks good, not as a serious cosplay endeavour.

Getting your panties in a twist over themed lolita is a classic example of people who don't realize they're ignorant to the fashion making rules up. I don't see how you can get past Lolita 101 and not realize themes are perfectly acceptable, ffs we have entire substyles based around themes, like pirate and hime. I know fandom lolita is a bit more of a gray area, but to say it's unacceptable even when well done is just silly. That being said, newbies should stay the fuck away from fandom coords (and themed coords in general) and leave that shit to the girls who really know what they're doing.

Heaven knows, I tried. Out of many snow-themed jsks this first Taobao one was perfect color-wise, but it is sold out. Elsa was hard to coord because there are a lot of shades of blue. I went with overskirt instead of a cape in order to tone down the costume part. Oh, also snow-themed jewelry is a must.

Still not quite happy with the result, seems a bit tacky. What do you think? Maybe someone else wants to try?

Elsa is a way more difficult to lolify than Anna.
I really love the overskirt idea instead of a cape. This Infanta dress >>8434421 would be perfect for it but I would chose more muted leg wear, like the first tights in white and gray/silver. Or something like Baby's Esprit de la Belle Époque à Paris lace socks and Fairy Topialium lace socks.

I'm not happy with the shoe choice. I know she wears pumps but this are too simple with lolita. The same goes for the bags.
