These people...as much as we like to target them as such and as much as some of them genuinely are, they're not stupid on the whole. They are people who have made a conscious effort to be different, to think outside of the box and (as much as I dislike it) the feminist ideals they display for example, do require some thinking. Imo it comes down to a matter of self control. It is so much easier to be angry, to lash out, and to - as others have said - stand on a moral high ground, than to try to settle yourself on an even playing field with your "opponent" and attempt to understand things from their point of view. Before tumblr really started, I remember hearing this new-age theory that we were entering the Age of Aquarius and that after years of masculine influence we were going to see the femininity of society emerge to keep society in balance, a sort of antidote to the hard logic and opportunistic culture we'd created ourselves over the past 100 years.

Of course, I didn't believe it because it's nonsense. But as a male, I was always hoping things would lean that way; I was never masculine and always hated that kind of stuff, I'd always preferred the company of girls because it wasn't constant bullying and rough-housing, you could get some decent intelligent conversations out of them and they wouldn't judge you for thinking about things like boys will.

Then tumblr started gaining momentum with an increasingly female userbase and a heavy artistic influence throughout. It seemed like things were going well.

Instead, the culture that has emerged has left a bitter taste in my mouth and made me feel marginalized. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in some affluent middle-class American suburb, but white cis male privilege has a hollow ring when you've grown up in cosmopolitan UK poverty. It's a pretty shitty experience coming of age into a world that bridges childhood to adulthood and being even more alienated by the experience because the people you thought you could relate to have now turned against you by proxy - your existence to them is the very source of what's wrong with the world.

Should you turn back to your own gender, you're met with this neanderthal pseudo 'bro culture' which has veered off in the opposite direction completely and embodies some really ridiculous far-right principles and a lifestyle that I fail to understand.

It's very hard to find a middle ground, especially when your hobbies are internet-centric. I grew up knowing the internet/4chan to be such different places as well, long before all the legion /b/tard stuff, I just want normality back.

2007 was really when the place started going downhill in my opinion. I think 2007 was probably the last good year, by that time it was clear that /b/ had evolved outside of what it originally was and that something big was going to come of it. 4chan was never a den of bitter outcasts, if anything the tone was always very jovial and lighthearted from 03-06, nobody cared about anything but watching anime and having laughs; there was none of the heavy-going alpha/beta, bitches and whores type stuff. It was just...fun. There was definitely offensive humour but it wasn't meaningful, people were racist because they were anonymous and you couldn't get banned for it. If you spoke to people on IRC or outside of 4chan then almost all of those people were not actual racists and were pretty acutely aware of stuff that SJWs complain about today.

The trouble is of course that by 2006 that was starting to leak outwards thanks to Habbo Hotel and people made the association that 4chan was this edgy, racist place that neo-nazis could go and the wrong people began to join.

I think it's very hard for 4chan nowadays to joke in an unironic way, there's always a tinge of seriousness and angst behind everything. I think that's why the offensive humour worked back in the day, you never felt you were stepping foot inside stormfront but instead just this weird silly world where nothing was really taken seriously because, well...'lol internets'. Unfortunately, the "nice" generation I looked forward to after us was Tumblr. Literally flower crowns and everything compared to us. Supposedly these generations under us, Saggi and later Capricorns, actually exist to rebuild what we destroyed. I feel really critical of them and how they fight so hard for social justice, but idk. They're still young and maybe not in a total prime yet. Hopefully this is the dawn of good things, like a "feminine rebirth" and a more accepting society.

I don't know about a lot of that, but I agree that social trends are circular. I think that society creates its own causality; WW1 and WW2 destroyed thousands of years of naturally indoctrinated theological belief in less than half a century which is absolutely crazy when you think about it. Following that I think it's only natural that you would soon get hippies, LSD and the search for peace, love and truth.

If you look at cyberpunk media, it's very popular right now just as it was in the 80s. I think if you're brought up in an era where technology is taking the front and centre of the world stage then it's only natural that your view of the future would be dystopian. I don't think anyone in the 80s could really have predicted what the 90s would be like...it certainly wasn't gleaming cities of glass and neon highways.

I think equally, society is going to get broken down and dismantled again. Whether they like it or not, the SJW types will not change the world, it takes a lot of actual affirmative action to do that and most of them haven't even been to a protest of any description.

I think we're going to see a lot of the interest in 'nerdy' things wane quickly and stuff like videogames, anime, conventions, cosplay etc. will fall out of fashion and be seen by the mainstream as something isolated to this generation. unfortunately, many companies and institutions in North America would bend over backwards to accommodate them and be politically correct, especially if they bully them into it as they do many of their victims (gettingracistsfired style) by then they'll have their own little horde of teenage lemmings.

Never thought I'd say this but thank fucking Christ I live in one of the most conservative, Jesus-loving countries in Europe with medieval laws. I can only handle so many rabid trannies at once.

Former SJW here, can confirm majority (including myself 2 years ago) are kids wanting to fit in for various reasons.
Some of us might be legitimately struggling with gender/sexuality issues. Some of us might be struggling with race. Some with mental illness. We get sucked in, thinking we're going to get support and asspats and friends. And we soon learn that we have to conform to ever politically correct belief if we want to keep our friends, lest we be ~problematic~ and called out for it, with the worst of it being doxxing. The adults take advantage of guillable kids, and eventually SJ kids who were abused by SJ adults started making callouts for the pedophiles/abusers/ect who were taking advantage of kids in the communities and the SJ adults were NOT pleased in the slightest about it- and others started to proclaim about how callout posts were abusive and ~ableist~ (because they weren't when they targeted Cis Male Scum, right?) as a way to deter it.
I ended up pulling off the bandage gradually, following anti-sj and neutral blogs.The tones those blogs generally have tend to annoy me, so I don't really follow them either present day, but they really did help me wisen up over SJ bullshit.
