let's have a thread with pet peeves

I personally hate this trend of having wigs with bangs that look like a tendril going down the middle of your face. I also hate unstyled wigs that rely on bobbypins to keep the hair off the persons face.

I hate when people cosplay from a source they don't know anything about just because they thought an outfit was pretty.

Cosplay is a conversation starter by default and I hate nothing more than that disappointing feeling of knowing I can't discuss the thing I like with the person who put effort into making a physical incarnation of a character they have 0 respect for.

I really hate that look too! It just looks unnatural and uncomfortable too, always having hair in your eyes.
I'm wondering - what's the best way to style a wig with that type of bangs, or something similar like pic related? Is it just best to cut them to that length and then just let them fall naturally, rather than forcing them into clumps with hairspray?

This. My friend suggested that I couple cosplayed with her a character I didn't know nothing about. I did say I'd consider it, and I even started doing research on the character, read comic books about the topic etc before I told her yes. Like, before you decide you cosplay something you know nothing about, at least do some research about it.

But yeah, I hate the anime eyes-makeup where people look like they have birdshit in their eyes. Some people can pull it off(but it's pretty rare) if the white bird shit isn't showing, but mostly people who do the makeup look like they are on their first stage of weebness and someone jizzed in their eyes.

This is one of my biggest peeve, zero attempt at styling a wig and then people saying "Oh I dont want to ruin the wig!!!" bitch if you dont cut it youll never cut it and that's exactly what someone I'm mutuals with did.

They have never ever cut their wigs (nor asked someone to help them) and it totally baffles me. specially when you put so much money into a costume.

I used to be scared of wig styling until I needed a styled one. I got one in an accurate cut but inaccurate color, dyed it several times, chopped off the hair I didn't need, parted, teased, trimmed it as I needed... it is scary if you don't do it, but once you're at it, it's not scary anymore

I have a friend who only recently started cosplaying and I used to do her make up for but the other day I just took her make up shopping and got her everything she needed to do it herself. I taught her the basics and tips and told her to try herself.

Its important to not just help out your friends all the time. which kinda leads to another pet peeve

Doing the "extended eye" thing, over countered noses and the thing where they do skin colored lips and then a black line in the middle.
Lastly, selling shitty prints or begging for stuff/money.

Bitch fuck off I don't care about the attention I just want to fucking cosplay in peace. Get out of here with your attention thirst, it's not my fault that you can't fucking complete another cosplay when you always decline my help when it's available to you. Lack of time isn't the reason you suck, you don't have the damn motivation or skill yet. Quit pinning blame on me when I've done this shit for years and you've been in this for like 2 with the same fucking costume.

That kinda reminds me of a girl I used to hang with in high school. At the time, I was pretty ok at sewing and she didn't onow how to sew at all. She used to ask me to make her stuff for free. I always refused, but entitlement really bugs me because it gets really annoying really fast (Like people who want more like on a photo, people who want more pictures taken of them at cons, etc. Really russles my jimmies)

I admit I have photobombed before, but I've never done it to someone's private shoot or when people are having their photo taken with other cosplayers. I saw a group of friends who were having their photo taken by another one of their friends, and I was sitting down/ in the background. So I made eye contact with the photographer, grinned really wide and did a thumbs up and he took their photo. When they saw it they saw me and I just waved / it was a really lighthearted joke.

I'm happy they took it the right way but I can easily see how that would've been annoying as shit.

Also I used to be terrified of cutting wigs. I STILL am actually. I cut my first wig with help from a friend and we cut the bangs way too short. I'm still nervous but I try.

i just dont understand like its a fucking hobby if youre that stressed out you need to take a step back and reconsider why youre doing it. i know people whove ruined real life friendships over costumes because they dragged them into last minute stressing and pushed work they should have done ages ago on them.

She had half a fucking year more than enough fucking time. It was a con we'd never been to and we were supposed to attend together.

I gave her reminders to finish it. I offered to help but she found that offer to be offensive.

Another story: we were up the final night before a different con at my place STARTING one of the cosplays she had planned. STARTING. She finally accepted my goddamn help and I ended up styling all her wigs, doing most of the work while she literally just sat on the floor, frozen by stress, staring at the uncut fabric. For 4 hours. We never finished. She insisted on taking the shit home and "waking up early to finish it".

Next day rolled around and she couldn't do it. None of the cosplays were done. All that work I put into her crap and she didn't fucking use it. I lost pre-con sleep over this shit when I was completely packed and ready.

I was so goddamn ANNOYED.

Like excuse me for engaging in a positive conversation at an event designed to bring people of similar fandoms together. Skimping on the shoes. I've seen some nice costumes that come undone with New Balance sneakers or $5 Wal-Mart flats.

Alternatively, if you're cosplaying a character who is known for being barefoot, please put something on your feet. It's really gross to see blackened feet. You can kick off a pair of flip flops for photo-ops

you begin with the wig like a palm longer than you need and take small bunches of hair at a time, then with your scissors locked in position (don't cut, use them as a razor) start shaving the ends in a vertical motion, from the top to the bottom.
I found this method really helps thinning out a wig while making layers and getting nice ends too. it's perfect

Photobombing is the best shit at conventions. Obviously if it's a private photoshoot or they're setting up a certain shot, back off. But any hallway photo is fair game and makes for some hilarious pictures.

I had to use a bobbypin to keep the sides of my curly bangs in place but I atleast had the decency to hide it in the wig. I could've hairsprayed to death but there was no time left for me. I feel your pain on this one, there's a "popular" local cosplayer in my area and she only relies and swears on that. She doesn't even wear the right lenght/color/hairstyle but that's a different story.

My pet peeve is the smallest thing that can boost a cosplay, meaning nails, make up, removing your piercings, actually trimming your wig and eyecontacts. I know not everybody can wear contacts so I'm trying to get over that one but people not doing anything with their nails is unbearable for me. I know it's incredibly stupid but oh my god how hard is it to trim your nails and keep it clean for one day? Especially if your cosplay requires to pose with your hands first pointing to the camera? I don't care if there's no matching colours but for the love of god it's on the same level as showering in the morning, DO IT.

I photobombed a selfie once because the group was sitting right next to me and I didn't think they would spot me or even pay attention to it. They thought it was hilarious though and asked for a proper picture, it was lotsa fun. On a related note, people that get ultra possesive over a character and are offended if you cosplay it are the worst. I literally had a friend type "dont cosplay ___ shes me you can be ___ lol" to me (copy and pasted but I blanked out the napes) when I jokingly mentioned cosplaying the goofiest design a certain character had. I've been thinking about doing this character for real now, but I'm really scared that this friend is going to be furious with me or perceive it as a slight. In general, I feel like a lt of people I know get super "___ is my character" or have it declared who is "allowed" to cosplay what character depending on whether or not a slot in a group is filled. There are characters that I used to cosplay but I feel like I can't anymore because of how people have declared it their thing or whatever and I fear being chewed out.

Doubly so if those people did a great or better job than the person they're whiteknighting. One strong blow to the chest and the whole thing caves in on itself. The center fold for the "cleavage" is driven right into the sternum and diaphragm so that the person is forced to removed the armor (if they can) to continue fighting (surprise, fighting takes a lot of breathing).

I'll sacrifice realism for aesthetics with a lot of shit. Hair, being a big one. Yet when something is downright non-functional for the sole purpose of what the object does (protect the chest) and is not even designed that way too look cool, but instead just for empty fanservice, it's just really frustrating. That and there's so goddamn much of it. Boob armor is commonplace at this point. Something is not longer a sexy deviation if it has become the norm.

Pic of a lady who literally only has the skin on her face and a strip on her biceps exposed with no discernable breasts, yet is still sexy as hell.

I'm just kind of sick of it to be honest. If it wasn't such a common thing (and a huge double standard, since the equivalent male armor is almost never like that, except in a few cases like pic related), it would be one thing. But for so many series, it seems to be the standard, and is cliche at this point. There's this "formula" that everyone seems to follow when they design sexy armor, so it just ends up looking same-y. It also ruins the immersion for me and is just plain distracting.

I'm sick of all the sjw bitching about boob armors and sexualized outfits for women. Unless it's really ridiculous and tasteless, I don't mind. I think a woman's body is beautiful and I like seeing it. These same bitches complain about slut shaming yet they constantly whine about sexualized character designs in games that are most likely not intended for them but for people who like that sorta thing. You don't have to play it if you don't like it, damnit. I don't play games to be educated about gender equality, I play games to escape the real world and its tiring rules and social issues.

The role reversal thing with males dressed up in skimpy outfits doesn't really turn me on, it looks ridiculous. But give me a handsome male character in an elaborate uniform, armor or a suit, that gets me going.

Oh, and a related cosplay pet peeve: basic bitches who only cosplay skimpily-clad popular characters like some skins from LoL or TERA and then make a whiny attention whoring post about how people "always" pay attention to their tits and it's so gross and ew. Tits are all your costumes are about, how could they not look at them?
