Hi! I'm a huge idiot, so I really need some help.
I'm gonna cosplay Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul) tomorrow morning, and I have everything ready except for the wig. It was a last second decision, so now I'm stuck with this wig and absolutely no experience with cosplays whatsoever (it's my first one) and I can't get anyone to help me, since it's 10pm here.
So, I'd like to ask if it's even possible to fix this wig so that it can at least remotely resemble Kaneki's hair, and if yes, how.
I already checked the tutorials in the sticky thread, but I still have no idea what to do, if I should straighten it, cut it or just style it somehow. I'm sorry if this kind of thread doesn't go here, by the way, but I really have no idea what to do.

>> No.8259102

take a pic from slightly farther away. I can barely see what the wig looks like other than frizzy.

>> No.8259108

I have to go to the doctor's soon, but could you wear the wig? I can't see how long it is on the wigstand. Also, it would be helpful to know how thick it is. Kaneki has pretty generic animu hair. From what I can see so far, you just need to shorten and add layers. Remember to not cut horizontally, but vertically.

Also, use the help thread next time.

I don't know why the picture's rotated, I already uploaded it twice now, sorry.
Is this okay, though?

Styling that shit takes 1-2 hours.

Try adding more volume and bags if you can. Kenny's hair looks sort of rugged if you go by the official artwork. So maybe something like this?

Sorry if I'm not much help anon. I'm doing Sasaki myself.

>> No.8259120

Try wearing it to see its length. From there, it's pretty easy to see where to cut. Most likely you will just have to cut layers and maybe trim its length a bit here and there. Also, remember that you can't straighten it unless it's heat-resistant.

The problem is, OP has never done this before. So they probably don't have any of the supplies, and will likely hack into it with kitchen scissors, take way too much away from the bangs and ruin it, as most people do when they first try to style a wig. If they had more than half a day to do this, it would be fine, but waiting until the last minute will result in a rushed and messy job.
Also, they could have used the help thread.

But it's not like it's some complex style. As long as they're careful and don't hack into it horizontally, it should be able to avoid the bad cosplay thread. Seagulls are so pessimistic.

>could have used the help thread
I agree with that though.

Thanks, that's actually quite useful, I think

I know that it's gonna look like crap because, as I said, I'm an idiot for waiting until now to work on it.
But yeah, I'll use the help thread next time, sorry.

Even if you have good instructions your first project isn't going to turn out well. Anon would be better just wearing the wig as is with maybe a little bit of volume and then trying again with more time. There's a logic to wig styling that isn't just going to click because good instructions. It takes practice and a feel for it. I tell everyone to get a really cheap wig and just use it to practice techniques before you use them on the real thing.

Also to get it even close to accurate they'd have to cut in layers by clipping up higher layers and cutting each section one by one.

On top of that thy're probably cut it to the size of the wig head, not their own head, which is most likely smaller.

We're here to be realistic, not nice.

Trim the bangs 1-2 cms or half an inch. Starting from the back of the ears, cut it a little shorter. Be mindful of the wefts; don't cut it too short. Then layer. Again be careful to not make the layers too thin: white wigs tend to show wefts a lot easier so you'll still want it thick enough to hide them.

The only hope you have at this rate is go to a Sally's or other beauty supply place and get a razor comb. You comb it all around and it cuts things way more realistically than scissors in noob hands. Put it on your head first and secure it with lots of pins so it doesn't fall out. Do the front then pin it to your wig head to get the back to look right. Fluff it out with a hairdryer and hairspray and pray.

The first time I cut a wig, the only mistake I made was cutting it too short on the wighead. But that's a really easy mistake to compensate for, and if I had researched better/someone had told me, I probably wouldn't have fucked up. Wig cutting isn't as difficult as people make it out to be. Just go at it slowly. For a newbie, it should take at max 5 hours.

don't forget to cut into the wig vertically instead of horizontally, especially if you're trying to layer....cuting it horizontally is gonna leave ugly awkward chops in the wig

also, when you cut just make small snips...it's easy to cut 1 cm off then go back and cut more than it is to cut too much off the first time and then kinda ruin it

The con I'm attending is pretty small and I live in the middle of nowhere, so probably nobody's gonna recognize my cosplay anyway (even with the mask). So I guess I should just leave it, then? And maybe try to improve it for the future...

These anons are tempting me, though. But I'm pretty good at fucking things up, that's what I'm afraid of.

We don't have stuff like that here, and it's too late to go out anyway. I live in southern Italy, by the way. But I might order something like that online, thanks
